When starting a new project I have always gone into Sony levels set Studio RGB To Computer RGB which works fine and have always turned it off when rendering a project.
My question is I noticed in preferences - preview device tab there's a box I can check off for Studio RGB To Computer RGB but when I check the box nothing happens. I tried re-booting with the box checked still nothing.
Could someone tell me what's up with this setting?

That setting only applies to your preview device (e.g. external monitor connected to your Windows graphics card).
If it's that external preview that you're having new trouble with, you could try installing .NET Framework 4.6.2 (examples where this has fixed preview stuff: case 1, case 2). You could also try updating your graphics card driver, or rolling back your graphics card driver.

Instead of applying an effect to adjust your preview window levels, I can recommend SeMW Extensions. Enable its Preview levels extension (Tools menu > Extensions), which will put a new dropdown menu above the Vegas preview window. In that dropdown menu choose "PC". You can safely render with that set, as it applies to preview only.
Thanks Nick you are the best. I will download SeMW Extension and us it. This will save me from not having to think about turning off Studio RGB To Computer RGB filter every time I render or pull snapshots off my video. One less think to worry about.
