Where has my external preview monitor gone?

paul_w wrote on 9/21/2016, 11:03 AM

Hi all,

V14 Question: my secondary monitor for external previewing is not shown in the "Preview Device" tab and when i click to activate external preview, there's no display to it.

Same test in v11 shows the monitor display listed and can be selected as an option, this works fine. Not listed in v14.

ok, so what am i missing..

thanks.

I should add i am using "Windows Graphics Device" and under Details its shows as "Device Connected". But no option to select a display (1 or 2) from that.

hmm, strange.. Do you see the display options listed? (drop down box)

Former user wrote on 9/21/2016, 11:27 AM

Yes, I have options for 2 monitors. What happens when you click Identify?

paul_w wrote on 9/21/2016, 11:31 AM

Identify works from Windows as 1 and 2.

I see this:

Wow, you're missing several things there. did you try a reboot?

paul_w wrote on 9/21/2016, 11:42 AM

I'm back after a reboot. Sorry no change but worth a try.

wow, definately missing several things.

paul_w wrote on 9/21/2016, 11:44 AM

Dont suppose its anything to do with this being the 30 day trial version? A limitation perhaps?

Former user wrote on 9/21/2016, 11:45 AM

I am using the trial as well and everything is functioning as normal. No limitations.

Thanks Donald, for your time.

All good here as well.

Maybe a GPU issue? Graphics card drivers?

paul_w wrote on 9/21/2016, 1:02 PM

Away from the edit pc now. I will check the drivers tomorrow. But the system works with v9 10 and 11 without issue. Very odd. Thanks Nick.

Hi, I wanted also to post about that as I have the exact same problem. This looks like a bad bug. I have a RAdeon-Fury X and the "external  preview" work with my  2 monitors in V13. I am quite new to Vegas as I have been taking the special offer at 199$ and so I am still waiting to get my V14 serial.

paul_w wrote on 9/21/2016, 1:41 PM

Different gpu card here.  Nvidia Gtx570. So we have completly different drivers but same issue.

paul_w wrote on 9/21/2016, 1:47 PM

What about operating system related? Windows 7 here.

Adi-W wrote on 9/21/2016, 1:56 PM

Not related to operating system, Windows 7 here also. Does the Gtx output via Displayport ?

paul_w wrote on 9/21/2016, 2:02 PM

Well we are both using Windows 7. Maybe it is related.. Can anyone confirm if their external preview is working with Windows 7?.

My GTX is using DVI ports to both monitors.

Eagle Six wrote on 9/21/2016, 2:53 PM

Desktop here running Windows 7, with two monitors, works fine with 14 as it does with 13.  Using 'Windows Graphic Card', 'Display Adapter' showing 1 and 2.  R9 380 with one connected to DVI-I and the other to HDMI.

Best Regards.......George

Thank you George, that rules that idea out.

hello Magix, do i need to post a ticket?

vitus wrote on 9/21/2016, 3:21 PM

On my desktop(Windows 7) the similar problem: video output selection dialog box is empty. Video adapter: AMD Radeon HD 6670. I tried different versions of drivers (Catalyst 13,14,15) but the the same result.

paul_w wrote on 9/21/2016, 3:37 PM

Thanks vitus. So a few of us seeing this with diffrent hardware and drivers.. I believe if no secondary display is detected for whatever reason by Vegas, the option is not displayed in the dialog box. But it should be getting detected if the setup works with other versions.

Former user wrote on 9/21/2016, 3:42 PM

When I upgraded to the latest edition of Windows 10, I had to reinstall my drivers, even though they were still there. Have you tried that? I know you didn't install Windows, but was just a thought.
