Well, they have now killed off the Ignite Pro plugin line.

Steve, I dont thing they have killed Ignite Pro:

We've removed Ignite from the FXhome website as of this update. We’re working hard on improving a number of things including the plugin tech, effect variety, quality, and support. Keep an eye on your emails for upcoming plugin news - you'll definitely be interested in what we're working on

@J-Toresen at the moment, they have killed Ignite Pro. If I wanted to buy it and not wait for something "new", I can't.

I really hope that they come out with something good to replace it. Not a "revamp" of what they already have. I also wonder what the cost would be for the new replacement.

I'm not privy to the sales figures for Ignite, but it's software they've already developed and is ready for consumption. Why not continue to offer it and maybe, a free version of the next iteration of it? Like buy Vegas 18 now and get 19 when released.

But I will be keeping an eye my emails to see when this comes out.

Den24601 wrote on 11/23/2021, 10:45 AM

On November 8, I got an email from FXHOME advising there was an update to Ignite Pro version '2021.1'

Reyfox wrote on 11/23/2021, 12:11 PM

@Den24601 I saw the update too, but I'm "out of service" with Ignite 5, and am not willing to pay the upgrade price since I have it already with HFP 2021.2 which includes Ignite "2021.x".

I prefer editing in Vegas hands down. But if I have to press HFP into service I will. But FXHome isn't selling any version of Ignite at the moment.

I'm still curious about Post's future though since VEGAS can not control the pricing license.

fr0sty wrote on 11/23/2021, 12:25 PM

I would imagine there are contracts in place that do give team VEGAS some sort of solid pricing foundation to build upon, I doubt the new folks are going to be able to just show up and be like "it costs double now", though this is nothing more than personal, uninformed speculation.

@fr0sty one need look no further than Red Giant and Maxon.

But I am sure you are right in this. It's when contracts end that things can take a turn for the worse.... or better....

Steve_Rhoden wrote on 11/23/2021, 5:00 PM

J-Toresen, Really?, Think again!

Ignite Pro as it is, is dead in the water. And now they are feeding users the line of "developing something better", yeah right.

I had high hopes for FXHome, but the very day i heard that Artlist of all companies bought them, i knew this and more sideways movement was and is going to happen. Forgive me for being harsh, but i see this madness happen far too often in this industry first hand, so i know what i am talking about, it simply ticks me off.

Take a gander over at Red Giant Software, now fully owned by Maxon.... (Has gone off the deep end i tell you).

Could point out other examples, but i have said enough on this matter.

Assuming that FXHome doesn't 'sunset' existing perpetual versions of Ignite Pro - which would likely be a breach of the original purchase contract terms if that were to happen - you should be able to use your existing Ignite Pro installation as long as Vegas Pro supports it. Vegas Pro 17 did change OFX coding which meant that older versions of Ignite Pro did not function in VP17 unless Ignite Pro build 4.1 was installed which, at the time, meant having a then current or later 12 months 'subscription' to Ignite Pro.

@Steve_Rhoden - Oh, pray do. I just love it when you say how it is.

Reyfox wrote on 11/24/2021, 6:23 AM

@Dexcon wasn't the move to require a later version of Ignite Pro to eliminate all the free version usage out there? It's speculation on my part, but if you had a lot of projects with Ignite Express and wanted to continue to edit them in later versions of Vegas, you couldn't unless going 4.1, and didn't FXHome say Vegas changed something in the software that caused this problem?

I didn't have a subscription, but my license was good for a year of updates, which got me the 4.1.

@set Boris FX for me is great. But I rarely use FX like you. But to know it's there, or to just "let's see what this does" is amazing.

While I wait and see what is coming next, I'm with @Steve_Rhoden on this until proven wrong.

Yes. That's what I wrote:

Vegas Pro 17 did change OFX coding which meant that older versions of Ignite Pro did not function in VP17 unless Ignite Pro build 4.1 was installed

Maybe the OFX coding change made in Vegas 17 was to remove a reference to Sony - I really don't know for sure.

I added parenthesis to 'subscription' because the 12 months of updates - which I also had at the time - was akin to a subscription model in that updates are only available for 12 months from date of purchase until such time that the 'purchase ' is renewed. Much the same as currently available with perpetual licences for BorisFX and now with Vegas Pro 19.

BTW, I gave up and uninstalled Ignite Pro 4.1 from my computer because of the regular problem of Vegas Pro failing to open because of an Ignite Pro 'bundle' problem. The workaround was to delete Ignite Pro, reboot the computer, and then reinstall Ignite Pro (as well as some messing around in the UserApp folders). The bitter end was when I did that with Vegas Pro 18 and then opened Vegas Pro 16 a minute later and 16 failed to open because of a new Ignite Pro 'bundle' problem. Ignite Pro has proved to be more trouble than it is worth.

Yes, "com.sonycreativesoftware.vegas" was changed to "com.vegascreativesoftware.vegas".

You don't need to uninstall it,

you just need to move "C:\Program Files\Common Files\OFX\plugins\IgniteCore.ofx.bundle" and "C:\Program Files\Common Files\OFX\plugins\IgnitePro.ofx.bundle" to another folder outside "OFX" folder.

After you successfully launch Vegas once, just move the two Ignite folders back to "OFX" folder.

I purchase during Humble Bundle promo, and only limit to 1 device activation.

Actually I have been thinking on upgrading, which then allowing for 2 or 3 devices, but still considering as I still able to just deactivate reactivate between my 2 active devices (laptop and desktop). Last week, I can't reactivate (lost server issue). I haven't try again.

Thanks @lan-mLMC for reminding me of that workaround. I vaguely recall doing that at the time (and I'd done it many times before) but it didn't work that particular time, hence the uninstall/reinstall etc process. That it was necessary to carry out this or any workaround at random and sometimes seemingly frequent times over several years was just too inconvenient and unacceptable to me. Ignite Pro is just too flaky.
