I'll have to get back to you.

OK, I'm back.

How 'bout... Vegas A/V The professional media editing package.
Add a light version of Acid to the package to round everything out and you're done!

M

PS: The lighter version of Vegas could be called Less Vegas.

Make sure you keep the November 2002 issue of Electronic Musician laying around in a strategic place (like on the client desk). There's a nice 10-pager on using Vegas for audio-for-pic.

"less vegas" !!!!

I saw that too. Great article. Once it EMOnline posts it on their website, I'll put the hyperlink here for anyone that doesn't have a subscription.

Although its probably unrealistic, I would like to see the name "Vegas" completely eliminated. For me, (as with most folks who've visited or lived there) it evokes the archetype of "all show and glitz - but little (if any) substance." Most of it is just a plastic facade. With that said, I would obviously prefer something that underscores Vegas' audio power. A compromise might be "Vegas Multimedia" or something similar.

the word 'multimedia' should not be used, because that can imply video. It implies a jack of all trades, does everything, good at nothing... which is far from the truth.

I say just call it Vegas Audio and be done - what more could be said? Either that or re-name it, but that could just cause confusion. No 'multimedia' in the title please, reminds me of the days when a computer had a cheap soundblaster, and suddenly, it was a 'multimedia' 386... mmm

ACID is a far cooler name tho - from a marketing standpoint.

<<the word 'multimedia' should not be used, because that can imply video>>

At this point in Vegas' evolution, ESPECIALLY given the article in the current Electronic Musician focusing primarily on video (audio is also covered tho), I think its completely illogical that SOFO would split the A & V sections into separate apps. I think video will be implicit no matter what.

<<ACID is a far cooler name tho>>

I agree. . . perhaps "Mescaline" or "Ecstacy" for the new ver. of Vegas? ;-)

Ah, I see we now have some believers in part of the rants I have.

Yeah, may as well stick with any other popular drug...CAUSE "VEGAS" BLOWS. Big time.
Mescaline works.

"Vegas or Vegas anything" sucks and wreeks of marketing ideas from a simpleton (an annoying devout christian business major perhaps??...whatever it is...it has ZERO edge).

Hell, why not call it "ZERO"
or...Hey, we fuc*ed up...give it another shot.
or..."Mo' Tools" or "Free Beer" at this point.

C'mon Joe, seriously. You're creative. If you had you choice, what would you call it?
PipelineAudio wrote on 10/18/2002, 2:06 PM
Victor Media Solutions

Very Intuitive Audio General Recording Application - but that's a bit of a mouthful. Perhaps it could be shortened somehow ...

Car companies have been known to get a target audience and ask their opinion on various names they were considering.
Maybe SoFo could post potential names here for us to vote on, or even send out e-mails to registered users for a choice among SoFo given options.
That is IF they are even considering changing Vegas Video to begin with.

I really don't think they are, and I honestly don't think it would be a smart move just yet. This is more for fun than anything.

I say we just reverse it and call it "Video Vegas" and get all the retired couples who hang out at the bingo clubs to buy it under the false pretense that they're getting to play casino games at home. That's pretty much what happens when you mention the name to any audio users anyway.
Ben  wrote on 10/18/2002, 6:53 PM
Seriously, we've been through this a million times before on this board and I'm just hoping SF is reading and taking note. Unless they're on a suicide mission, they just can't call the next version Vegas Video 4!! Pleaaaaase...

Vegas, fine. Vegas Audio, fine. I quite like Vegas Media (sorta sounds cool)... whatever, just let's not have video in the title of a software package that as far as we're concerned is predominantly for mixing AUDIO! Change the name, though it'd probably be a mistake to take Vegas out completetly; although Vegas doesn't have the awareness that it should have in the industry, it arguable has <some>, and if you change the name to something totally different you really are starting again from scratch, marketing-wise.

I originally thought it would probably be a mistake to remove the name "Vegas" entirely, thus detroying any previous marketing and name recognition. I've since changed that view point after seeing Cakewalk change the name of their software to "Sonar"...it's nothing more than "Cakewalk 10", but the new name seemed to strike more of a curiousioty of a new optimal audio solution. I think Sonic Foundry could learn from that after destroying the audio credibility by calling it "Vegas Video". I now think it's best after hearing many peoples reaction when I mentioned the name Vegas Audio at AES.
Ben  wrote on 10/18/2002, 7:47 PM
Good point about Sonar - forgot about that. The name Cakewalk easily overtakes Vegas as the worst ever name for audio software.

Well, per this little splash screen project... Vegas A/V and Vegas Media seem to hold the most appeal. Vegas "something-having-to-do-with-audio-and-video" anyway... or just plain "Vegas". Any other thoughts before I get started?

Nick, why a batch file? Why not use RESHACKER to just replace the splash screen with one of your choosing?

Since Sound Forge is arguably one of the best (if not THE best) names on the market, why not keep that line of thinking?
Forging is basically tranforming metal.
Acid, on a more far-fetched level, transforms what it touches.
...Something to do with transformation...Metamorphasis...MetaMedia ??
Maybe named after a tool/chemical/product that melts or transformes.

Oh well, I'm just trying to get into the spirit of this thread. :)

Later.

"Media Architect" ;)
vanblah wrote on 10/18/2002, 9:15 PM
Since it is a multi-media editing tool, how about "Media Forge?" Of course, there are several companies already using this name ... but not a software package that I know of.
