Titles & Text super slow typing

PacoDeCasa wrote on 2/3/2022, 4:23 AM

Hi all...

Sometimes, i've not discovered "when", typing in vegas titles & text is really annoying, 3-4 seconds each keypress, so I end up writting the text in notepad and pasting it in vegas titles&text.

Does anybody knows why and how to avoid this kind of behaviour?

Thanks

The system is that, yes, but the thing about typing delay wont happen all the time, maybe after being editing some time.... but not sure the right moment...

And I'm currently using the latest version of Vegas. v19

@PacoDeCasa  ... thank you for the information.

Please check the minimum specifications for Vegas Pro 19 - https://www.vegascreativesoftware.com/us/specifications/#productMenu

An i7-4770 is underpowered even for HD. Before upgrading over a year ago to a better spec'd computer, I also had an i7-4770 with 32GB RAM - it struggled with Vegas Pro 18 which had much the same spec requirements as VP19. But the weird thing is that Titles & Text is really old technology so there must be something else in VP19 that perhaps limits its use.

Titles and Text can be slow but a few seconds is unexpectedly long for input. Do you have it doing shadows or animation?

For playback you might do a shift-b or shift-m pre-render to get it to preview faster.

No, I dont have shadows or animation, in fact I did a search about this problem and some people wrote about that thing about shadows....

If you think it should perform better you can try help/driver update and update GPU drivers.

Failing that reset the program and clear the cache:

Beyond that I really don't know.

Possible system overheating, like either the CPU, GPU, or possibly both? Maybe other components in the case, that are "Lacking" Air Flow, due to dust/hair build-up, blocked fans, etc.?

If that was the case, all system should go down... but everything runs fine but that typing on titles&text...

I have the exact same problem. My system has more than enough specs to run the software (Vegas 18, and don't want to upgrade till this problem is fixed)

i7 late model

1070 GPU

32GB Ram

But whenever I try to add text after editing all the clips, it lags super bad while typing. So bad it makes it hard to type. Is there a fix this? @Dexcon @PacoDeCasa @RogerS

Reyfox wrote on 3/19/2022, 4:37 PM

While the OP's CPU is "underpowered", using text should be one of the simplest and easiest things to do. All other editors play text back in real time. I get faster rendering and timeline playback using Boris or NBFX with a lot more happening than with Vegas basic text.

It's been a long time coming, but something new has to be done with the text editor.

This problem started for me when I upgraded to 18. Everything else was fine but whenever are you doing something with text, things go to hell? This has to be a known issue, isn't it?

set wrote on 3/19/2022, 5:41 PM

Happens to me recently when doing editing in my ASUS ROG system as I use titles and text to add annotations for later edit.

Feel like never happened to me when editing in my desktop which uses AMD Radeon RX470, but need to be experimented.

Nvidia issue?

@joshua-noesser @set I remember someone did mention this before but i don't think it's a Nvidia issue,

I tried it before but just tried it again, this is 50mins of 4k with an effect on every event, i can still type in text wherever i want, I know my PC is a bit more powerful but if there's an issue it still shows,

I had the same issue recently with a 4k 2 track multicam project. Each letter took 2-3 seconds to appear in the text. I had never seen that before.

RogerS wrote on 3/20/2022, 10:11 PM

I haven't seen excessive lag with VP 18+ except in a recent project that had 1000+ text events on the timeline. It was fine for ones that were cached but if I skipped around it got quite slow.

There's always resetting Vegas to clear out any old inherited settings and clear the cache. I did this at some point during my use of 18.

It's not an issue with a specific font is it?

Have exactly the same issue with VP20. AMD 5900x , 6700XT graphics and 64gb so it's not underpowered. Good tip on using notepad and cutting and pasting. Any other clues anyone has come across? It literally takes 2-3s for each key press to register. It's almost like it's building previews in the background (a bit like New Titler pro does), then when it's done it, you can type and edit at normal speed. Really odd that it's intermittent.

This remains a curious frustrations with Vegas 20 - super slow typing lag using Vegas Titles & Text. It makes editing subtitles etc a real chore and a waste of time. I can't fathom why it only does it sometimes. I've looked at CPU/GPU activity when it's being laggy, and there's nothing showing. It's not about PC power, really don't know what else to look at.

Dexcon wrote on 5/13/2023, 7:11 AM

It might be an AMD GPU issue - I'm not experiencing any problems using Vegas Titles & Text in Vegas Pro 20 (NVIDIA RTX 2080 Super GPU) which I'm more and more using because of ongoing difficulties with using NewBlue Titler Pro 7 in Vegas Pro 20. Another titler that works well in VP20 is BorisFX's Title Studio.

I have also suffered it on my desktop with nvidia RTX 3060, it's not about the gpu... it's random, when the project has many titles and text, I dont really know...

Reyfox wrote on 5/13/2023, 2:36 PM

I am a touch typist. I don't look at the keyboard and learned typing on a typewriter (manual) back in the 60's. So I type fairly fast. Using Titles and Text, within the animated part of the template, typing there is a slight delay. No big deal. If I carriage return below the area of the animation, typing at "normal" speed, the characters keep up with my typing.

Yes, there is a delay, but I don't know how many lines, characters, which title, etc., is the problem(s).

System specs in signature.

BTW, for the RX6700XT user, I am still on 22.5.1 drivers. With BorisFX Title Studio, NBFX Titler Pro 7, Ignite Pro 5, any later driver causes issues to one or all of those.

I think I might have had a small breakthrough on this problem for my setup. Like many of you, I get intermittent slow titles, where Vegas will take a couple of seconds to add or delete each character in a subtitle. It's very frustrating on a tight deadline day.

I've been trying out the Happy Otter kwikProxy function and it seems that when I've created proxies for just about everything in an edit (but not everything on the timeline) and switch to proxy view mode with the HO switch, the slow title problem goes away. Switch back to normal view with full res clips, and it comes back. So that would maybe point to some clash of timeline memory juggling for titles.

Anyway, thought that might help others to investigate further. Happy Otter proxy building also seems about 8* faster than internal vegas, but that's for another post.
