Translation table for video effects, transitions, media generators

walter-i. wrote on 11/13/2021, 3:19 PM

I have a German installation and often have problems finding the FX, transitions, and media generators mentioned here in the forum in my Vegas Pro, because Google Translate often doesn't give good results either.

Is there a translation table for this?

Stelle Dein VEGASPro18 auf Englisch um, dadurch man es leicht vergleichen kann (bei mir ist gerade umgekehrt).

@Yelandkeil
Thanks for the tip - I have also thought of this - but it would be the last crutch I would use, because I would then be stuck with the English terms much more often in my daily work.

I'm only interested in making the right assignments in the discussions here in the forum.

There should be a reference table - at least on the developer side - or do they have everything translated automatically by an app? Sometimes I get the impression........

walter-i. wrote on 11/15/2021, 1:39 AM

...... and should even provide a way to respond to translation errors.

+1

I don't think it's automatically translated (new things aren't always immediately localized) and would assume they have such tables for internal use but who knows if it's in a format that can be exported or shared.

I only know it from an application that I created together with our programmers in Microsoft Access back then. It was written in a reference table - and was easy to display in Microsoft Excel.
But of course I don't know how it is mapped in Vegas.

Being a Dutchman living in Germany and working in a multinational environment, I'm used to operate a PC in English only, means my OS W10/11 is in English and all my applications too.

But for those who want to switch quickly between a German and an English Vegas UI and visa versa I can recommend the tool SeMW which has this feature: https://www.semw-software.com/en/extensions/

You may be able to write a script to help yourself. The script to iterate through and orderly list the names of the transitons which are used in the project. (Maybe @jetdv @wwaag can give some advice.)

In English UI, add several events to timeline, then add all transitions to them, save to a veg project. Then use script to list the names of transitions used.

Delete "svfx_plugin_cache.bin" and "plugin_manager_cache.bin" in "C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Local\VEGAS Pro\19.0". Switch Vegas to German UI. Open that saved veg project. Then use script to list the names of transitions used.

Finally compare the two lists. You will get a translation reference table.

jetdv wrote on 11/15/2021, 8:14 AM

@lan-mLMC, I've already included a script that will basically do what you are saying in the tutorials. Where I'm added effects, I use the GUID as it's much safer (the name doesn't change when the language changes). I've included that export script in the comments of the post. So look at the posts where I'm adding and effect to an event. What that script will do is to export all effects and all presets for each effect (and transition and renderer and audio effects). You don't need to add them to an event as it will export everything available.

@jetdv
I'm afraid I don't understand what you're saying here, as I don't know anything about writing scripts.
Can you tell me how this can help me with the question I asked at the beginning?

jetdv wrote on 11/15/2021, 12:06 PM

Ian mentioned trying to get a list before and after changing languages. I was simply stating that I have this script out there that will export everything. It could be run twice - once in each language - and then the files could be compared.

@jetdv Does it export in the same order?  It is important to have the same order for a translation comparison table.

jetdv wrote on 11/16/2021, 7:31 AM

@lan-mLMC It would export in the order provided by VEGAS so I would assume so - unless VEGAS changes the order based on language... Even if it didn't, you could compare the GUID, which would not change, to match entries.
