Unable to open Vegas Pro 14 because of error in registering

Lucio wrote on 9/26/2016, 9:26 AM

I received my email with serial numbers and downloaded the Vegas 14 software but when opening it, Magix requires registration. While following the prompts, the registration freezes and eventually an error: -15 pops up. I've had no response from Magix tech support nor am I able to phone them (because the number is constantly busy) so am hoping that someone here might have a solution before I ask for a refund.

I had already purchased Vegas Pro 13 in the past which works fine and only opted for the upgrade because of the free Vegas 14 included.

Thanks for any help.

Lucio

If you had installed VP14 trial version on your computer.  try to uninstall all VP14 trial and purchased version.  Restart the PC and then reinstall the purchase version see if it will work in registering your Vegas.

Ah.  Nick Hope link the solution.  This should solve your issue also.

Thanks Nick, Bruce for the quick replies. I've tried both your suggestions (deleting the license and reinstalling) to no avail.

I've attached screen shots of the errors. As soon as I open Vegas 14 (or dvd architect), there is a prompt from the Magix service centre to add in the serial number. Once that is entered, it asks to click on 'Proceed' below. At this point nothing happens and after a couple of hours I exit which gives me the error message on the second screen shot (Error: -15)

Do you think that no installing Vegas 13 from Magix (since I already had it from Sony 2 years ago) could be the problem?

Thanks again.

Lucio

Are you able to login to your Magix account?

Maybe you can use "Online activation on a separate computer"

Can you login Magix account and leave the page open.  Then try to register Vegas again.  Give that another try see what happen.

Hi Bruce, Quitter:

Your suggestions worked!

Quitter, I followed your link and Bruce, I kept the page open and it was successful.

A million thanks to both of you and to Nick as well for the help.

Maybe you can use "Online activation on a separate computer"

http://www.magix.com/us/support/technical-support/#c69706

As I understand it, activation from another computer is only for additional activations like the ProRes codec. That page is very clear that "as of 2014, you need to be connected to the Internet in order to activate the most current version of MAGIX software." and this was confirmed by a MAGIX employee.

It would be strange to have to leave a logged-in web page open. Sounds like there was just an internet connection problem somewhere.

Lucio wrote on 9/27/2016, 8:27 AM

You're correct Nick. I did do the activation from the same computer where the Vegas software was loaded but this time I first logged into Magix separately (per Quitter's link), registered Vegas and dvd Architect, kept the page open after registering (per Bruce's suggestion) and then went back and was able to open Vegas and dvd Architect.

The way Magix had it set up, they gave me the email to download the software which then took me to the activation page and at that point, nothing worked. What they should have instructed was to first go to the Magix website http://www.magix.com/us/support/technical-support/#c69706 , enter the serial number to register the product and then install/open Vegas.

In other words, it is not possible to download the software and activate it directly when opening Vegas without first registering it on the Magix site. Doing it the way Magix suggested leads to the problems I encountered in my screen shots above.

Thanks for the help Nick.

But that is the way how it worked for me!

I do not know what went wrong in your specific case and I am sure that you had the issue that you desribed here. But i still think this is a specific case, since it was possible for other user to activate the software after downloading and installing it.

That's very interesting. I tried for 4 days at different times with no luck. My internet connection is the fastest, most expensive available to us here in Toronto, Canada so I know that internet was not the problem.

At least there is an alternative if someone else has the same problem.
