Update causing issues with making proxy files

David-Humphreys wrote on 5/18/2021, 5:41 AM

I received an update notification for Movie Studio Platinum 17. I duly downloaded and installed the update.
Now when I try to create a proxy file for my project I get an error message at the end of each file conversion and the program won't move on to the next file in the queue until I click "ok" to clear the error message.

Is it possible to revert to the program version prior to this update in order to confirm that the issue is indeed due to the update and not some other change I may have inadvertently made to my file type ?
Error message reads : An error occurred while creating a proxy file for a video stream. The file is an unsupported format.

Any help or suggestions gratefully received. David

I performed a Widows system restore on my PC which took me back to the previous build of Movie studio.
This has cured the fault proving that there is indeed an issue with the latest update 😡😡😡

@David-Humphreys Or it might be another Windows update problem if your restore removed updates.

We need to determine if other users experience the same problem. What types of files are giving you the proxy problem. Media info would greatly assist. Instructions here https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-to-post-mediainfo-and-vegas-pro-file-properties--104561/

I can confirm this behaviour.

@j-v Are your files mov or mp4?

@j-v Are your files mov or mp4?

It doesn't matter, it's a bug in the last Vegas version. See the linked thread, multiple people are having the same problem.

@A_C It does matter. I installed build 221 this afternoon and found no problem with the only 4K mp4 file I have to test ( I shoot 1080). If you scroll down to Dr Zen's comment in https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/vegas-movie-studio-17-update-3-builds-176-221-general-discussion--129202/ you will find he had no problem with every format that he has.

So it's not a problem that affects everyone or every format. Just a handful of you so far.

...

I see. In my case it was mp4, from the GoPro, both HVEC and H264, both gave the error. Only after the update, before, with the same GoPros, no problems.
If not everyone is suffering this bug let's hope it's not something complicated to fix then.
