"Use Net Notify to stay informed about Vegas software update"

I submitted this to support over a week ago, but I have no response from them.  I submitted it again today to support, but am hoping someone here can help....In Vegas Pro 14.0.0.211 there is a setting within the Options/Preferences/General tab:  "Use Net Notify to stay informed about Vegas software updates"   By default this setting is checked.  Is this a setting that automatically checks for software updates?  If so, how can I disable this setting during the install?  Can I pass a parameter to the installer, or change a registry key or file after the installation?  Our users don't have the ability to install software and this would cause an error when a future update would automatically try to download and install, so I need to be able to make sure this setting is disabled during the install of the app.  I am installing the app silently/unattended with SCCM.
Thanks,
Rich

My experience is that it merely opens a webpage about updates etc. It doesn't actually download anything.

There's a change in this in VP14 build 244.

From the update announcement:

"...after the update VEGAS Pro 14 will now have the ability to alert users when there is a new update available."

The preference is now called "Use Newsfeed to stay informed about VEGAS product updates".

On opening build 244 yesterday I was getting the same window popping up that you see in this comment. But I'm not seeing that now. I'm sure it was unintended for us to see that and that someone at Magix has now changed a setting on the Newsfeed server until they have something to actually announce.

Anyway it seems to work the same way that Net Notify did, but hopefully will actually inform us of updates rather than only sales offers. I very much doubt it will actually attempt to install anything. More likely it will just link to a download.

Using Regshot to analyze the registry before and after changing that preference shows it to be stored in this DWORD:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Sony Creative Software\Vegas Pro\14.0\Metrics\Application\10497

If Newsfeed is enabled then that DWORD is absent. If Newsfeed is disabled then it appears with a value of 0.

Newsfeed is similar to the older NetNotify function. It won't download any updates automatically - it just displays an information popup.

Thank you Nick.  That reg key is what I needed.  It works like a champ to toggle on/off the preference. I will use that reg tool in the future to help isolate changed reg keys.  Thanks again to all who commented to my post.

Just had my first notification of an update:

It links straight to the full installer.

Unfortunately it doesn't have the intelligence to know that I've already got that update installed, but this is much better than silence, and you can mute the message with the box at the lower left.

Did ticking that box work for you Nick? It didn't for me with MS14 no matter how many times I ticked it. So in the end I unticked "Newsfeed" (as it's now called) in Options/Preferences/General.

Yes. The window no longer pops up. VP14 build 252.
