It's not entirely about how it's shot, no. The encoding process is the key, figuring out what to feed YouTube is key, and figuring out what/how to process the final render with is key. It's not as clear-cut as some folks would have you believe.
When I was working on the "YouTube for Dummie's" book, it became clear that even seasoned pros were struggling with it.
The format that we feed YouTube is MP4, and in-depth tests have shown it works better than the high-bitrate WMV that many folks seem to feel is great.
