Vegas 18 Pro (Build 527 is not rendering with GPU / Nvidia GTX1660

Evanilson-DjCandir wrote on 7/26/2021, 3:57 PM

Hello friends. Purchase the version (Build 527) of Vegas 18 Pro. I have a video card from Nvidia GTX1660 in my computer, I've already downloaded the latest updated driver available on the site. However, the option to render with Nvidia's GPU didn't appear. I would like the help of friends. Thank you!

Should be selected automatically in Options, Preferences, Video as the GPU for acceleration. It should then appear as a preset in Magix AVC preset rendering group. Also suggest you install the Studio Driver and not the Game Ready.

Hi @Evanilson-DjCandir
Do you have an Intel or AMD CPU ?
If you have an Intel CPU that includes integrated Intel Graphics (QSV), there is a further setting you may need to adjust.

1. First I recommend you do a full program reset. Only re-installing Vegas Pro, will not clean/restore the Vegas temporary files cache. A reset may fix the problem and show your Nvidia GTX1660 in Vegas Pro.
I have reset instructions on my website, if you don't know how to do that.

2. After reset, go to Options/Preferences/File I/O
Make sure it is set to Nvidia and not Intel !

3. Also check Options/Preferences/Video
GPU Acceleration = Nvidia

Derek

I agree with Dr. Zen's steps with one modification to #2.

For hardware decoding I'd recommend Intel and not NVIDIA even if you have a good NVIDIA card. The Intel decoder is currently compatible with more file types. Additionally, on my system, NVIDIA, even with the Studio driver, is less stable; and others have similar reports. Of, course test it yourself and if the media you use performs better with NVIDIA decoding that's fine to use it.

One other place to look is Windows. Under "graphic settings" you can choose whether programs use your integrated or high performance (NVIDIA) GPU. Select Vegas Pro 18 and change it to high performance.

Then in Vegas when you go to render, select MagixAVC or MagixHEVC and you should see a NVENC encode option available. If you have QSV (Intel) it's comparable in terms of render speed as well.

@RogerS My reply is based on trouble-shooting a problem, not performance. I have had numerous reports on my own forum, about rendering not working correctly - it happens all of sudden when users upgrade to a newer version of Vegas and/or build update that includes the new File I/O settings.

If Vegas users have an older Intel CPU with Integrated graphics (especially 4000 series), I recommend they turn it off - especially in the new File I/O setting. Older model Intel CPUs are causing render problems, that's why I recommend Nvidia.

If on the other hand it is a brand new Intel CPU + graphics, it should work OK, as you have stated.

Thanks Dr. Zen. My suggestion was really just to use the default file i/o settings in VP 18, which for stability and performance should be auto (Intel).

But your question of CPU is a good one- if it's an old one with outdated iGPU (but newer GPU for some reason) it needs to be disabled.

Hello Dr. Zen and RogerS, thank you very much for being available to help me. Dr. Zen I use an Intel Core i7-9700K Processor and an Nvidia GTX 1660 Video Card with 6GB of RAM, I did all the steps you mentioned in the link and it didn't solve. I already uninstalled the video card drivers and installed it again and it didn't work, what I can't understand is that I used a previous build of VP18 and it worked perfectly. I've already done the procedures in the graphics property of the card, I also did it in windows and nothing helped. Now I just have to format the computer and reinstall VP18. Thank you very much to everyone for your willingness to help me.

This problem sounds like another X-file 👽

If this was my own computer, I would be re-installing Windows 10 (clean install).
Also following the advice of Howard-Vigorita and installing Nvidia Studio Drivers (if you are not a gamer).

@Evanilson-DjCandir If your Nvidia 1660 isn't being detected by Vegas and you already reset and/or uninstalled Vegas to no avail, a full uninstall of the video driver followed by a fresh install is what I'd try next. I think Nvidia has a clean install option but I use a free utility called DDU (google it) which works quite well ripping out every trace of a video driver so you can start over with a blank slate. I have a 1660 myself so I can assure you that it and Vegas do get along. Agree with Roger that your Intel uhd630 is better for decoding although the 1660's not bad... it'll just work better if you let the Intel shoulder some of the load. But 1st things first.. gotta get your Nvidia working as your primary gpu. The Intel igpu is a great decoder but does not work well as a primary gpu.

Hello my friends, thank you very much for your help and dedication in helping me. I solved the problem by installing Vegas Pro Version 19.
