Vegas 22 is four times slower than Vegas 20

I wanted to try out the new speech to ai feature along with Text Based Editing. I'm shocked, I have NEVER had software run this slow and unoptimized right from launch. The speech to text ai feature is a long ways away from being any good as the time to transcript 1 hour of footage was about 2 and a half hours. On top of that the editing timeline, preview and in general everything on Vegas 22 is drastically slower than on Vegas 20.

This means of course I'm not going to use text based editing, I'd love to but it'll be easier for me to edit myself, take less time, AND even when letting the software transcript, when trying to do anything editing wise the software either takes way to long to make a single splice/edit. OR Vegas 22 will outright crash completely due to lag.

I'm using 64gb ram, intel i7-13700k and a 12gb graphics card on Windows 11. Vegas has always been a slower editing program but this has become a huge let down. Audio can barely stay synced while in preview and watching video in draft auto mode does nothing to help the issue.

When trying to edit, I don't expect to see every frame. But I haven't even touched unedited footage yet and the software struggles to preview 1 frame per second. Luckily I didn't buy the full version, I bought a monthly subscription but am hugely disappointed. Had Vegas 20 allowed me to try the speech to ai feature that would've solved my first problem but due to monetization and releasing new software every year, I'm forced to pay for a subscription to use "the new software" which is a shell of Vegas 20 just with a few more things added on.

Pressing play to watch the video on the timeline takes anywhere from 4 - 12 seconds just to start the video. After about 20 seconds audio starts cutting out and eventually Vegas 22 completely crashes. I'll be sticking with my copy of Vegas 20 until this newer version works as intended.

Not sure what else to do other than go back to using Vegas 20 and cancelling my studio membership as I plan to learn new editing alternatives which seem capable of editing videos.

I was highly disappointed and have wasted a few hours already trying to find solutions but all I've found is others criticizing the software and stating that this version is buggy and inferior to prior versions of Vegas.

If anyone has any suggestions to help make the software less laggy and more useable, please let me know.

Speech to text doesn't run locally so depends on internet conditions and the server. I agree it's slow. There's an interesting add-on for VEGAS I started using recently which does AI transcripts locally. With an NVIDIA GPU it's very fast (CUDA!): https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/auto-captions-for-vegas--147836/

22 is a huge improvement over 21 and prior versions for stability and media decoding thanks to revamped GPU support and a new decoder. General word is actually quite positive for 22; I'm active in a few user forums. The catch is that not all Fx are yet accelerated/optimized so there are areas where it's slower than older versions (I have issues with 32-bit ACES and certain Fx) and the decoder needs to be improved to work better with certain media formats.

General slowness is likely an issue with specific media and VEGAS. Can you share MediaInfo and a sample file for media it struggles with? I haven't seen it crash due to media yet so that is concerning.

Also what is your hardware (CPU, GPU?)

Please also find two benchmarks in my signature where you can compare 20 with 22 directly and also compare your results to similar systems.

Without more info it will be hard to give specific advice.
