Vegas 22 Mocha crashes on launch

Philuk wrote on 8/12/2024, 4:09 AM

I've just upgraded to V22 and for some reason the Mocha plug-in crashes when I launch on a clip it previously worked on. It seems to get stuck on the 'A message from Boris FX' screen advertising Mocha essentials etc.

I've deleted mocha from the clip I initially used and started again, but it still crashes.

I presume there's something going on with windows, but if anyone has a work around I would appreciate it.

Here's my system dets.

Processor    12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-12900KS   3.40 GHz

Have you installed the Vegas Pro 22 version of Mocha Vegas? If not, you need to do so in order for Mocha Vegas to work in Vegas Pro 22. Mocha Pro installation is available in Vegas Pro 22's installer as available from the My Products listing on your MAGIX My Account.

Also, Mocha Vegas does not come with the basic Vegas Pro 22 version, it only comes with Vegas Pro 22 Suite (perpetual license or subscription).

Hi Dexcon,

I have the suite version on perpetual licences and when I installed it, the Mocha part was installed along with the other programs, such as Acid 11 etc. Is this same thing or is there a seperate file for Mocha?

The following link is for Vegas Pro 22's announcement on the forum - https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/vegas-pro-22-now-available--146668/ - at the bottom of the page is a link to Mocha Vegas 22's installer.

Maybe try uninstalling Mocha Pro via Windows Apps and then installing it again via the VP22 Mocha Pro installer.

It doesn't seem to be listed as an App in Windows?? I loaded the installer and uninstalled it, then loaded it again and it still goes all spinny wheel.

Just in case I'm doing something wrong, this is my process.

I click the fx tab on the clip, it brings up all the plug-ins and I press/add mocha vegas. I then press 'launch Mocha UI' on the video event and it then brings up the Boris XF message I mentioned earlier, crashes and then goes all spinny wheel??

I suspect it's a windows things and it's getting block somehow.

Philuk wrote on 8/12/2024, 9:32 AM

Correction. The App was there. I've removed Vegas and Mocha and now re-installing.

Philuk wrote on 8/12/2024, 10:11 AM

Quick update. I've gone through the install and it still crashes when I launch Mocha.

I wonder if someone at Magix can help with this? It's been 2 weeks since I first posted, and Boris still can't solve this issue

Boris seems completely unbothered with this issue,  compounded by a response time which is painfully slow. At present I only get one reply a day, and advice which is painfully obvious. Such as ‘try changing the GPU settings’.  Or try uninstalling and installing again.

I’ve even sent them a crash log,  and they still can’t solve the issue of white screen crashes.

I’m at the point where I’m about to go for the 14 day refund,  as for me there’s no advantage from V20. I understand that Boris is a third party, but given the system I’m running this shouldn’t be an issue.

I have no idea as to why it crashes on your computer. It should be working. When you first use the software, it will ask for you to register, did that ever appear for you?

I just tried it, and while I know this doesn't help you, it does work within VP22.

Hi Reyfox,

After un-installing and installing several times, it asks for licence number which it happily accepted, but still goes to white screen when I launch the app from V22. I've even been through the windows app security settings to allow Boris free access. The thing is it did initially work, and now doesn't. So there's bug in there somewhere, either with Windows, Boris or V22.

I understand it works on yours, but it ain't on mine, which is extremely frustating. Compounded by the glacial response from Boris, only makes it worse.

To me it's corporate buck passing at it's worse. I think if you are pitching a white labled product as a feature on your software, I feel you have to take some ownership of it if it doesn't work. I would have liked more support from Magix with this one.

Dexcon wrote on 8/26/2024, 6:26 AM

Both Mocha Vegas and Mocha Pro OFX work without a problem for me in Vegas Pro 22.

Uninstalling and re-installing Vegas Pro doesn't always solve operational problems; rather, resetting Vegas Pro back to its default (factory) settings is a good alternative as long as the cache is cleared as part of the reset process. Resetting is quick and easy. To reset, follow exactly the process outlined in the following:

https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-can-i-reset-vegas-pro-to-default-settings--104646/

... making sure to clear the cache. I hope that it works for you.

That was one of the first things I tried. Still going to white screen. Also just installed and re-installed V22 and Vegas Mocha...same thing white screen! I can't believe I'm not the only one suffering this.

Reyfox wrote on 8/27/2024, 3:34 AM

Well, you have to believe you are the only one with this issue that has posted it.

I've never seen it ask for a serial number for Mocha Vegas when installing. The only serial number asked for was the one to activate Vegas Pro.

If it's working for "everyone", the issue then is at your computer end. I am stumped. If you want Magix help (this is a user to user forum), you'd have to contact support from the top of the page.

What happens if you create another User Account for Windows on your computer and install it there?

Thanks Reyfox. I'm also at a loss. I've raised another ticket with Magix support, so hopefully it will get resolved. I'll post back if it works. Just a tad annoying, you have a new toy and you can't play with it!

Reyfox wrote on 8/27/2024, 4:38 AM

It's more than annoying. I'd be frustrated to no end, trying to figure out "why" it isn't working. That is why I suggested creating another Windows account and installing it there. If everything works, then you've at least narrowed it down to your main Windows account.

In Vegas 21, Mocha would track then end prematurely before tracking was completed. On a Boris message board someone suggested to turn off my GPU acceleration in Mocha's settings. I did that and Mocha then tracked fine. Slower but no crashes. I also contacted Boris and received no response.

I have Vegas Pro 22 now and Mocha starts fine. I have not tracked anything to see if I still have to turn off GPU acceleration in Mocha.

I know your situation is different than mine. I am running a RTX 4090. You can try turning off GPU acceleration in Vegas and try to see if Mocha starts? Or use DDU in safe mode and uninstall your GPU driver and then reinstall the newest ones from NVIDIA. You might have done this already, if not you can see if that works out for you. Good Luck.

Thanks Sasylola, I've tried all of those. Cleared the cache each time. I've got the latest Nvidia drivers as well. I reckon there's some code still lingering from the first intial install, becuase it did work and now it doesn't. I was advised by tech to try and get a error report by turning Enable Hang Detection to TRUE. But nothing happens, just a white screen and no report??

Steve_Rhoden wrote on 8/27/2024, 7:28 AM

The only problem i can surmise from all your information given, is that it seems to be a Display Graphics Card issue/conflict with Mocha.

Tell you what, download and install the trial OFX version of Mocha Pro, and open it up in Vegas and see if you have the same issue.

Dexcon wrote on 8/27/2024, 7:39 AM

Uninstall does not get rid of all Vegas Pro entries in Windows' registry. Short of the nuclear option of reinstalling Windows and starting again, the next but much easier nuclear option is to do a clean uninstall of Vegas Pro via the procedure outlined in https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-can-i-do-a-clean-uninstall-of-vegas-pro--111205/. And also uninstall Mocha Vegas. Then run a registry cleaner such as the registry cleaner in Tools in the free CCleaner - also recommended in the clean uninstall procedure. Hopefully, this will get rid of Vegas Pro and Mocha Vegas 'ghosts' in Windows' registry. I have found that running CCleaner's registry cleaner several times needs to be done in order to achieve a thorough clean.

The clean uninstall procedure involves editing the registry, so be very cautious and exact when doing that because registry editing does not have an undo (Ctrl-Z) function. However, you can export/save registry folders before deletion so that those registry folders can be restored if necessary.

Also, make sure that you follow the registry folders listed for later MAGIX versions of Vegas Pro, not the Sony-based folders.
