Vegas 6 Features -- It's That Time Again...

1) Some way of temporarily engaging and releasing "Ignore Event Grouping" or "Auto Ripple." Maybe a preferences setting to automatically turn off "Auto Ripple" and "Ignore Event Grouping" after the next timeline action is complete? Maybe a hot-key to engage and release?

2) Port all of Acid 5.0's spiffy new features to Vegas:
- VST support
- nested tracks
- Media Manager "search and tag," "scan disk/web for media files" and database search functions
-bus to bus routing

3) Allow selection of regions, events, markers, etc. by double-clicking the appropriate listing in the Edit Details window. (Like Sound Forge does)

4) An "Open in Image Editor" function that works like the "Open in Sound Forge" function.

5) More snapping options (snap to event edges across tracks, snap to edges only, snap to both edges and transition points, snap to cursor only, etc.)

6) Nested timelines PLEASE!

7) Ditto showing the name of the preset in the FX window! Should be a no-brainer.

8) A cutlist function like Sound Forge's. This would allow you to mark events for deletion, preview the timeline as if the cuts were complete, then automatically delete all marked events whenever you want. It would also be nice if you could have the option of automatically selecting all events in the selection area on all tracks, to facilitate cutting whole segments out of a complicated project.

9) A Storyboard function. Ideally, Vegas would allow you to re-sequence subclips inside Media Bins, preview selected clips in the Video Preview monitor, and automatically drop/insert selected clips to the timeline, all in the selected order.

- Floating toolbar... I'm always short of vertical work space

- Event-specific markers (that move with their associated event)

At least allow the clip to be sped up more than 400%.

You already can. The Velocity envelope allows you to go 300%. CTRL-click the end frame and drag it back to get a further 400%. Render that to a new track and repeat as required.

Prerenders should behave like they're footage on a track. They should follow ripple editing just like everything else.

Render to new track ought to have more choices. like render to top, render to (named) track. and it could default to the last track you picked.

Being able to save presets and maybe browse them in a bin or something might be nice.

Now that we can save subclips, how about being able to add more fx to them-like event pan/crop? I think we could get much more mileage out of the trimmer than we do. It could be very useful in manipulating individual media or their subclips.

ABSOLUTELY!!!

I thought I was the only one annoyed by that.

You don't know if your preset is applied or not, unless you go back and do it again.

Ditto!

"Event-specific markers (that move with their associated event"

good one ..

I would really like it if Vegas would natively support the Tascam USB control surfaces, like the US224 and US428. Vegas is such a great audio program, but as it is now I'm using Adobe Audition/CoolEdit for multitracking. And since I'm getting good at Audition, I'm using Acid and SoundForge less.

I'm not a pro (obviously), shelling out huge bucks for a Mackie surface and doing 48 channel mixing; just a hack needing two inputs.

C'mon Sony, it's an easy implementation. I can't believe you havent done it already.

Thank you. This has been driving me nuts forever.

1/ NESTED TIME LINE (i will be very disappointed if v6 dont have this feature)
2/ Audio event FX on Time Line
3/ Audio media FX in Media Pool
4/ Better trim (mutiple Event like Liquid Edition)
5/ Better Real Time preview (like Edius)
6/ Overwritte Edit Mode (like ALL NLE, Assemble mode)

- nested timelines
- better titler, like bluff titler
- better/faster updating of timeline thumbail clips
- tool/utility like boilsmith.com/womble's MPG/VOB editors/joiners.. eg easy instant cut and paste for mpgs, vs render-only

If V6 gets Acid's folder tracks and nestable timelines, it's gonna be one of the cleanest timeline of all NLEs, compositing will be much more easier, less clutter !

oh such a simple request;

basic edl input - ie, in / out / reel number (WITHOUT having to have a tape in camera!).

it's truely amazing that sony paid no attention to the off / on line input capabilities of their pro video editors, from the bve series through to the es7

"AAF/OMF/EDL support -- I know it's not going to happen, I just figured I'd put it down for the sake of posterity :) Another Capria con in the recent DV review, incidentally."

I know it's not going to happen!!!???? A Video/Audio Program, (competing on a Pro level) released in 2005 without an AAF/OMF import/export function?? A waste of time IMO. It just can't be true that Vegas 6 will be released without it.
rmack350 wrote on 11/14/2004, 5:34 PM
No, it's not really amazing at all. Sony bought Sonic Foundry about at the time that Vegas5 was being finished up. Also, these aren't the same divisions of Sony anyway. Kind of like expecting HP's Server division to know what the Calculators division is doing.

But I have slightly higher expectations for future versions.

You already CAN replace media at the timeline. Just drag the new event up there while right clicked, choose Add as Take.
I know, you'd like to have a right click submenu that says "replace media" but where do all these things go in the grand scheme of things? Submenu is already pretty dang long.
PH125 wrote on 11/14/2004, 8:58 PM
PLEASE a better titler!!!

OpenGL support

16 bit colorspace

Spot|DSE wrote on 11/14/2004, 9:04 PM
And where will you be getting 16bit footage? And the computer that will manage that much color at the necessary framerates?
Grazie wrote on 11/14/2004, 11:17 PM
Ok Spot, and thanks for the "I know, you'd like to have a right click submenu that says "replace media" . . ", how about a "Submenu Preference" - a Submenu I can choose as to what I want? Bit like a Customizable Toolbar . .we got that? Then I could Customize that Submenu . . yes?

I think this is great idea .. . well I would, wouldn't I?

- Deck Link support
- EDL/AAF
- usable track motion curves (the current ones are ajoke)
Rednroll wrote on 11/15/2004, 6:58 AM
1. The ability to write CD Text.
2. Rewire, so that I too can have a DAW that can be rewired with Acid.
John_Cline wrote on 11/15/2004, 8:28 AM
I agree, 16-bit colorspace is overkill, however, a 10-bit colorspace isn't. I could really use it.

RS-422 control so that older pro decks (BetaCam, etc.) can be directly controlled.
