HOW COOL! Was just installing Windows 7 today on my main editing rig and couldn't find my 9.0b files, so I went to re-load them from the website and realized 9.0c was up. Couldn't be better timinng!
Now I just hope everything plays together nicely. I did a fresh install of Windows 7 and kept the old Vista 64 & programs on a separate HD. If anything fails, I just swap-in my working C: drive and wait until I have more time to sort-out any problems...
It appears to be easier to backup things within Windows 7. I have made backups of my C drive image along the way and at one point I went back to an earlier image on a USB drive without a hiccup.
I think 64 bit is finally here - just need SONY to update Noise Reduction plug-in to 64 bit....
You know, when Vegas 10 comes out next year, I think I am going to buy it at the special introductory rate, but wait until the "c" update is released before I actually install it. This looks like it is finally the real thing and not some silly beta version! Cool!
VideJoe, this happens every time a new version is announced.
I'm not sure if the servers get overloaded or what but a fresh download usually solves the problem.
MCU Pro faders still flash four times when opening Vegas and once or twice when confirming a dialogue box. I had been told this would be fixed in this revision.
Still doesn't play nicely with the MOTU PCI-424 interface. And mercy, 64-bit still crashes at the drop of a hat. Guess I'm still in the same boat since what, July? At least the 64-bit version can now access 64-bit VSTs, if only the program worked long enough to use them. I started out with a fresh install of Vista 64. Who thinks starting out with a fresh install of W7 will make any difference?
I suppose this long list of bug fixes is welcomed by many. Nevertheless, I had hoped there would also be a fix for the "video buffer underflow" bug that comes up when Pro 9 rendered AVC files are put into DVDA. Anyway, there is nothing about it in the release notes. But maybe it indeed is a bug in DVDA and not in Pro 9.
Yes, the video buffer underflow bug is fixed in V9c - from side of the Sony AVC encoder. So, it works now fine with DVDA 5b. Markers are exported from the Vegas timeline too, if you use the AVCHD templates in the Sony AVC encoder (but not if you use the Blu Ray templates, unfortunately). However, it works now!
YES!!!
I just rendered a problematic clip using 9.0a which did cause the underflow error in DVDA and thereafter the same clip using 9.0c which didn't.
I'm happy but I don't understand why SCS didn't mention this bug fix in the release notes. And I do use the Bluray templates but I don't mind that the markers aren't exported, it's easy to enter them manually.
Still no cure for the missing custom render templates.
As a matter of fact, this version made it even worse.
At least with 9.0b, I had 8 out of the 20 custom MPEG-2 templates that I have in Pro 8.0c.
After installing 9,0c, I now have NONE.
That's right. Zip, zero, zilch, nada :-(
SCS, what did you do this time?

I'm with you on that Laurence. For me, Vegas 8.0 was the same deal... wasn't really right until version c (when the HDV reader got updated).
Enhanced audio event timestretch and pitch shifting with zplane élastique Pro.
That's a nice surprise. I thought that functionality would only come with SF10. For my personal workflow, that's the first real potential benefit of 9.0 over 8.0.
>> Improvements to XDCAM (MXF),
That's pretty generalised. I wonder what they've actually done.
>> Added a Prioritize quality over speed check box to the MainConcept MPEG-2 and Sony MXF Custom Settings dialog. <<
It's a shame someone from SCS can't come in the forum and give us a bit more info about some of these changes/fixes, rather than have us guessing. Even some hints would help. It would only take a few minutes.
How responsive is the 9.0c preview now in terms of playing/pausing, crossing transition boundaries etc.? Still any delay, sluggishness compared to 8.0? I'm particularly interested in HDV. This has been the main thing holding me back from upgrading.
it looks like the "User Created Custom Templates for MainConcept AVC/AAC reverting to 192,000bps (video), 6,000 bps (audio)" problem has not been fixed, but has been adjusted.
I get 4,000,000 (video) and 192kbps (audio) by default now... i'll check it again tomorrow when i get time.
My experience is that of the 4 MPEG Templates I created in 9 they have carried through to 9c.
However . . and thank you for making me study this harder !!! . .
V8 4 x Grazie-MPEGs NOT carried over to 9 at all! These were me futzing about with CBR, streams and the like, and NONE of them had/have transported through to V9!
V8 to V9 for AVI looks fine. I had a Particle Illusion Template I found useful for a project and that HAS come over to V9 from V8. But it would appear that the MPEGs have gone M.I.A. !
Well at least I CAN copy the figures from a V8 MPEG Template into a NEW V9 MPEG Template and start over - but why should I?
Another nice touch - the mxf audio files now open in Sound Forge Audio Studio (they used to be out-rendered into 32bit, which is not supported by Audio Studio; now they maintain their original bit depth).
