Vegas does not react

michel-marang wrote on 2/22/2021, 5:13 AM

Hi, since two days my Vegas pro 17 refuses to open either old or freshly new made .veg. files. My PC/windows 10 was updated only one month ago, I reinstalled Vegas several times, did not help.

Every time I try to open a veg file, vegas does not complete loading, or, if it does, does not react on any action.

I did not change any setting since last times the program was working properly.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Michel

First try this : https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-can-i-reset-vegas-pro-to-default-settings--104646/
and don't forget to delete the cached files.

Try uninstall reinstall.

Can it help?

michel-marang wrote on 2/22/2021, 11:20 AM

I did that, removed and reinstalled two times - no difference.. Also pc, components, windows are up to date.

Any other suggestions? I noticed some .veg files, containing only photos and audio work normally. Maybe it stopped liking .mov files?

Thanks!

j-v wrote on 2/22/2021, 12:19 PM

Maybe it stopped liking .mov files?

.mov says nothing about the properties of such a file as used codec, etc.
We can say more about that if you show here the MediaInfo of that file made by this tutorial: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-to-post-mediainfo-and-vegas-pro-file-properties--104561/

This is the main source file (the other is an mp4 generated by vegas) At the bottom end there's info of an earlier rendering of this file. The problem is that the most .veg file gets stuck on opening since a day or two...

It seems I found the solution: I changed the hardware decoder from NVIDIA to Intel QSV and now all .veg files open properly. Does that say something about my Nvidia card? ......

RogerS wrote on 2/22/2021, 5:50 PM

What is your NVIDIA card? Maybe, not all formats decode with the NVIDIA decoder, too (though it should fail more gracefully than that). Consider upgrading to the Studio Driver if you haven't yet.

michel-marang wrote on 2/23/2021, 1:21 AM

Yeah, that videocard (Geforce 730) is an oldie, but I didn't upgrade it as I see that, in whatever setting, vegas uses it never more than for 20%

No why should it?
With me in VPro17 and VPro18 the program sets at installation the decoder on QSV as default.
Probably you changed that earlier (the wrong way).
