vegas for mac os

Sergey-Melekhov wrote on 6/5/2023, 4:01 AM

Maybe it's time? Give some answer about plans. Today, a lot of people have switched to a MacBook and a lot of people are abandoning Vegas. You just don't give an alternative. I've been using Vegas for 7 years and will soon switch to a MacBook too. It is faster and more mobile. And I would not want to lose this program.

You probably know that the project cannot be integrated with any other program. I have never had it successful.

If you are not ready to make a full-fledged product for a macbook. Then maybe you will make mini programs at least for sorting frames. With the subsequent transition to the full version. to continue.

Please provide your answer on this.

This is a user forum so don't expect an official response. Not sure why you tagged it as scripting either.

There's no way this is going to happen in any reasonable timeframe. If you need to use a MacBook find a program that is made for it.

Thanks @RogerS. The post has been moved from Scripting.

the problem is that I would not like to switch to another program

The reality is that there is currently no Vegas Pro version specifically designed for a Mac and it is most unlikely that there will be in the foreseeable future - certainly not in time for your soon upcoming MacBook purchase. Your current choice is either to get a Mac and move to another NLE that is Mac compatible or to stick with Vegas Pro and get a Windows laptop. Ask yourself which is the most important for your needs: Vegas Pro or a MacBook?

The following is from a Vegas staff member in a forum post a few years ago re Vegas Pro for Mac:

It would be wrong of me to say never, but at the moment there are no plans to create a MacOS version of VEGAS Pro. The VEGAS code base is extremely tied to Windows and the effort to do a Mac port would be enormous. As Steve did mention, a port of Sound Forge was done, but this was a complete rewrite of the software from the ground up and to this date is not a full featured as the Windows counterpart. VEGAS is considerably more complex.

@Sergey-Melekhov Sorry, there are no current plans on making Vegas for Mac. So if you have fully decided to switch over to mac, you simply have to get another editing software that's fully compatible for it, there is Final Cut Pro or Avid Media Composer etc.

I have many friends who have switched to macBook. in order to increase productivity. And I have studied many forums on the subject. A lot of people would like this to happen.

it's a pity. I really like Vegas, it's a pity that this is so.

A lot of people may really wish this to happen but we simply do not have the engineering or financial resources to do the complete rewrite of the application that would be required to get this done at any time in the foreseeable future. Almost every aspect of VEGAS relies on Windows or Microsoft resources in some way, from the UI all the way down to encoding and decoding.

I also use a MacBook, but not yet one with an M2 processor, the reason being the Horos program.
I still can't understand the constant praising of Apple products, especially Apple's claim that their own programs are superior or at least equal, compare "Numbers" with Excel....... Accordingly, you could also take Imovie, for info see here https://www.apple.com/imovie/
Vegas has its own charm, enough open construction sites in Windows and a far too small developer team to generate market dominance or rapid development leaps; yes, the software would certainly need a modernization or at least gradual rewrite, but most users probably don't want a change of "character". From that perspective, a call for an Apple rewrite is rather nonsensical.

I personally have zero desire for a Mac. None. I happen to like building, maintaining and upgrading my own computer and have access to the largest software library.

I've been using Vegas for 7 years and will soon switch to a MacBook too. It is faster and more mobile. And I would not want to lose this program.

It seems to be faster with ProRes Raw than the early vp19 release I tried when it's beta-prr was included. I know folks that picked up a mac m2 just to transcode it. But inevitably bring the footage back to a Windows machine for editing. Mobility? Battery life on mac laptops isn't significantly better overall than Windows machines and with far fewer buying options with significantly less memory and disk space. And fewer i/o connectors than typical win laptops.

You might want to try DaVinci Resolve and visit their forums. It runs on both Win and Mac. Those that use both might be the ones to ask about relative performance.

The two best NLE for Mac's at the moment are Final Cut Pro and Davinci Resolve.

I think Mac OS is more stable. I tried to find an alternative for performance macbook, but haven't found anything yet. To edit 4K on multiple tracks. maybe i'm wrong. But judging by the video reviews it is.

RogerS wrote on 6/7/2023, 9:52 PM

Lenovo, Asus ROG Zephyrus, MSI and Alienware have high-performance notebooks that are capable to do multiple tracks of 4K (which really most modern laptops can do) and should be comparable to M2s for speed.

If you want a Mac, that's fine, get one.
