Vegas pro 13, weird rectangle hole in media in every project

VernD wrote on 10/13/2016, 7:01 PM

Everything was working perfectly until Microsoft installed the latest update. Now when I import videos into a video track I get a a strange rectangle, like a mask, in the upper left quadrant of the image. If I use the chroma key the rectangle is blue or green, if I only use video media the rectangle only shows during preview.  It is always the same size in the same place.  My video adapter is updated to the latest driver.  As I said, this started right after the big update on Win 10 a couple weeks ago.  I increased the RAM allotment and the media fx dropdown in the video preview window says FX bypassed.  I can't figure out how to unbypass fx.

Does this happen both with and without GPU acceleration on in your video preferences?

Read this thread. .NET Framework 4.6.2 might help, even though your symptoms are different: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/where-has-my-external-preview-monitor-gone--103626/?page=2

If that doesn't help, even though your video card driver is the latest version, try reinstalling it (which might mean rolling back to an older version and then upating again).

Not sure which big Windows update you mean. If it was the KB3194496 update then there are later updates that might fix things:

If you think the earlier Windows 10 Anniverary edition (version 1607) update caused this, you might be able to roll back and defer the update. See the last 2 paragraphs of this post: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/windows-10-anniversary-ed-n-broke-my-media-manager--103055/ But I suspect by now you would have had that too long ago to be able to roll back.

Thanks for the prompt response.  My GPU acc. was set to off with NO on due to the onboard video card.  I just installed a new Radeon 7870 which gave me the GPU Acc. AND much more RAM. i allocated 1000 mb to RAM and checked that the GPU Acc. was on.  The system has imporved a LOT but the bar still remains.  Interesting point:  When I render the bar dissappears so I suppose it is something i can live with.  However, it seems to be a preview problem.  I use an external monitor for my preview and the bar appears on both monitors.  i am beginning to suspect a corrupt file in my Vegas install but cannot find my latest version and they do not have it for download on this site so that I can reinstall.  Seriously considering switching to another editing program right now.

cannot find my latest version

If you bought version 13 before MAGIX took over then try this: https://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/download/link?id=9256.1

Vern D---just a shot in the dark, you've probably tried everything by now.

I had weird preview problems with NVIDIA cards (different than yours, I had total scrambled pixelation).  My workaround was to Alt-Shift-4 (fullscreen preview) and that would display properly.  In my case, I have two very similar setups (with identical NVIDIA cards & drivers & OS etc) and one worked and the other didn't.  Eventually a Vegas 13 update or something(!) cleared it up.  Hope you get satisfaction...
