Vegas Pro 16 (Build 424) constantly crashes

Debbie-Whitmer wrote on 7/22/2019, 3:47 PM

7-22-2019 - Hello - I have been a Vegas user for a very long time (years).  And I love this video program since the beginning.  I currently have Vegas Pro 16 (Build 424).  I hear that Vegas Pro 17 is coming out in August.  However, every since I have had Vegas Pro 16 to this day, it constantly crashes on me and I get that "frozen white screen" where you have no choice but to exit or do a CTRL+ALT=DELETE to get out of it.  By that time, so much is lost and I have to redo everything I just did.  It absolutely will not stop crashing.  And needless to say, it's been very frustrating.  I have Windows 10 (and keep it updated), I-7 processor, 32 gigs of memory, terabyte SSD hardrive, 8 gig video card Radeon RX580.  With all the Vegas Pro 16 updates that came out for Vegas Pro 16, NOTHING has corrected this problem. I would like to upgrade to Vegas 17, however, I really don’t know if this will correct this problem either along, then, with this continuing frustrating problem.  The only thing that I have found that has helped me is that with EACH CHANGE I make, I SAVE my work (CTRL +S) and that causes my editing to last a bit longer.  But when I get into the “flow” of editing, I may forget to SAVE with EACH CHANGE and, BAMB!, I get the white screen again.  My question is, I would like to know what is causing this? And can any one address this specific issue with a permanent fix?  Looking forward to anyone’s reply and help. - Debbie

Also, in the mean time, go to Tools > Advanced Save and set the save interval to 1-2 minutes. This prevent you from losing too much progress if it does crash. Magix really should move this to the File menu next to the other save options.

I also believe that cleaning out the Edit History helps, especially when color correcting a lot of clips. I, like you, save a lot. One bug all my SVP & MVP versions have is crashing during audio edits. I can practically set my watch to them. BTW, Nick Hope and John Dennis are Vegas gods. I think Nick is from another planet.

Try do implement things mentioned in FAQ (as per @john_dennis suggestion). You can try to apply easiest things first. One change at a time.

P.S. I'd change items order in the FAQ as some really easy things are somewhere at the bottom (like checking/clearing temp folder or trying compatibility mode) and some complicated or that I would not use at all are at the top (like disabling GPU acceleration in Vegas or disabling anti-virus)
