Vegas Pro 16 very slow

mikael-d wrote on 11/1/2018, 5:57 AM

Vegas Pro 16 (and 15) are VERY slow to load and use! I have used Vegas Pro 14 and it works well. Loading a project takes 2 minutes in 14 but 20 minutes in 15 & 16! Cannot use 15 or 16, very disappointing (they were supposed to be fast!), back to 14. Project: abt 2000 4K files, duration 4-5 hrs. Hardware: Lenovo ThinkStation 710 Signature Edition, 64 GB RAM. Please advise!

1. Vegas Pro 16 Build 307

2. Windows 10 Pro version 1803

3. Sony FDR-AX700 & Sony RX1005a, 3840x2160, 25fps, .MP4, 1962 files (including 205 stills)

4. The purpose is to render it as 3840x2160 25 fps .MP4

5. Loading this project takes 17 minutes, the same in Pro 14 takes 48 seconds! Preview stutters badly even in low resolution. I can't use this version for editing. NB: Pro 14 works just fine! Pro 16 (and Pro 15 before that) are useless.

Please tell me what to do!

Try disabling so4compoundplug

Please let us know if it works. If it doesn't then please supply MediaInfo and Vegas Properties for your source footage.

I agree with you I just purchased Vegas pro 16 as an upgrade from 14 today. It's horribly slow. It crashes when I press the render button (the details are on another post). I'm using build 307. The only good thing about the Vegas 16 installation is that it left version 14 alone. Now I know why. Yes I disabled GPU acceleration but it still crashes. I requested a refund. I will dispute the charges to my credit card. I have been using Sony Vegas since 2005 and this is the worst version yet.

Thank you for the advise!
I disabled the so4compundplug, and now it works!
Loading the project now took 1:18, only slightly slower than with Pro 14, no problem.
Everything (?) now works as expected, I have been editing for a few days now without any issues.
But please, I really hope future updates don't contain bombs like this!

I don't know if this is related to the s04compoundplug problem described above. However, in Vegas Pro 16 I can't burn Blu-Ray discs (Tools - Burn Disc - Blu-Ray Disc); After "Prepairing Compilation" I get the error masseage:

"An error occured preparing the image.
Filename:
Status: Failed to connect to an IPC Port: The system cannot find the file specified."

I had to use a workaround: render the project (File - Render as - XAVC S long 3840x2160-25p), open this mp4 -file in Vegas Pro 14 and burn the disc with this older version..

Please tell me if you have a better solution!

Help needed please,

I also have VP 16 build 307, and trying to burn BD 1920x1080 50i 16Mb/s gives exactly the same error. Renders video (9 hours ++, renders audio, and when it tries to compile it flags this error, ISO nowhere to be found. VP14 never had these issues, wasted two days trying to resolve.

I tried setting all the file locations to the same SSD drives, same drive as source files to no avail. on some occasions it shows a different error,

tried 60 second loop render with the same error as the first.

Program set to run as administrator, previous versions no issues.

Laptop HP 8760W, I7 2670QM quad core, 2.2GHz, 20GB memory, 2 x 1TB SSD's C:, G:. with build in Blue ray writer, windows 10 pro 64 bit latest build as of 1st Jan 2019.

@andreas-georgiou (& @mikael-d) Please add this extra information and screenshots to the thread that is specifically about this problem: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/problem-making-blue-ray-iso-in-vp15--108589/

As j-v wrote on 1/1/2019, renaming c:\Program Files\VEGAS\VEGAS Pro 16 "bdmux" -> "bdmuxOld" and copying and older "bdmux" from Vegas 14 worked for me! I hope there are no more surprises lurking anywhere..!

Problem is still presents in 16.0.361
But disabling so4compundplug helps!
