So I built this computer myself and the processor is

AMD FX-8350 Black Edition Vishera 8-Core 4.0 GHz (4.2 GHz Turbo) Socket AM3+ 125W FD8350FRHKBOX Desktop Processor

gpu is

MSI Gaming GeForce GTX 1070 8GB GDDR5 SLI DirectX 12 VR Ready Graphics Card (GeForce GTX 1070 Gaming 8G)

motherboard is

MSI Gaming 970 Gaming AM3+/AM3 AMD 970 and SB950 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard

Recently updated all drivers and everything should be good. I upgraded to windows 10 thinking this would solve my problem because it was doing the same thing in windows 8

I upgraded Vegas as well because it was doing the same thing in Vegas pro 16.. I’m still stuck and don’t know how this is happening

Also I am using 2 solid state 500gb drives with raid technology allowing my main drive to be 1tb and I have 32gb of ram

ntdll.dll is a basic windows system file so it is likely that Vegas is trying to access an out of date installation in your windows build such as  Microsoft .NET Framework. You may wish to check that you have an updated version of  Microsoft .NET Framework. Also ensure graphics driver is the latest. Also third party FX packages can cause this error too. Some have had this error if Vegas is not installed on drive C: (same as windows partition). There are many, many threads on this one error covering all versions of Vegas and Movie Studio too.

Interesting are you talking about video fx plug-ins like new blue film effects? I do have a bunch of those. But thanks for the reply if anyone else has any other ideas please let me know

The crash is in the File I/O Surrogate which is used to properly handle some older codecs such as QuickTime, which is a deprecated feature due to the instability it has in Windows 10. You may have turned this on. If so, you would suggest resetting your preferences so VEGAS does not load that codec plugin anymore.

Recently updated all drivers and everything should be good.

I did ask after the driverversion of the GPU not if you (think to) have the latest>
Did updated that one through your Helpfiles that does it the best.

Ahhh ok.. thanks for the picture that helps and I'm installing everything now. I hope this works! I'll report back what happens after a restart and some testing

David-Lamberson wrote on 5/15/2021, 4:36 PM

updating the driver to Nvidia Studio Driver 27.21.14.6259 still didn't work sadly.. I've also removed quicktime - removed old versions of vegas - uninstalled my k lite codec pack - restored all preferences to default in vegas with the CNTRL / SHIFT method when opening the program- uninstalled and installed vegas multiple times after restarting my computer after certain changes were made - tried rendering after turning off the the GPU acceleration of video processing and doing a restart on the program - still nothing.. thanks for the help though everyone I'll keep trying to get it working and once I eventually do I'll post the fix here.

David-Lamberson wrote on 5/15/2021, 6:19 PM

I found a work around.. not really a fix but for now it will allow me to keep doing my videos until I solve the root of the problem. I created another USER account in windows 10. Its not an admin its just local user. After it set up the account I opened the Vegas 18 shortcut which was already located on the desktop. I didn't even open as a admin or set any recommended settings when running and it works perfectly! I was able to render down a video just fine.

So I decided to dedicate this other account on my computer for all video editing purposes and honestly it might help keep things a little more organized from my main account. I appreciate all the help guys and please feel free to give me any more ideas if you have them. Before I figured this out I was considering doing a format of my computer and fresh install of windows 10 because that usually always fixes problems like these.

uninstalled my k lite codec pack

Do a search here in the forum - codec packs are very, very bad.

I logged in the Sony Vegas shortcut

Really Sony?

I was using Sony Vegas before I upgraded so yeah still getting use to magix. I’ll edit that to cause less confusion.. and agreed! I won’t be downloading codec packs anymore

For me VEGAS Pro 20.0 also crashed everytime I clicked "Render as..." and the fault process details also featured FileIOSurrogate.exe. I was able to fix my problem by changing the settings of the executable in question such that it is always being run as admin (see screenshot below)

@Frederik-vomEnde  I had the same problem a week ago with Vegas 20 Windows 11

Because I had a deadline , so I did a format of my desktop and quickly installed everything again

Now everything seems to work back ok , but there is something strange going on between Windows and Vegas when you click render.
