Vegas Pro 20

Jennifer-Maslowski wrote on 7/30/2023, 10:21 AM

Cannot open--gets to "creating windows" and crashes. Removed and reinstalled...no change. Tried turning of wifi...no change. Tried opening as administrator...no change. Running Windows 11. This is ridiculously stupidly frustrating for expensive software. Had the same problem with the previous version in Windows 10, got my renewal notice, decided to try again...same crap. Help!

Which build of Vegas Pro 20 do you use and did you already tried to reset Vegas to the situation direct after installation?

411, and yes. Still happens exactly the same, I get through a minute or two of start up, initializing, and so on, then it hits "creating windows" and it hovers for a bit, then I get the crash report. Then it starts up AGAIN, and does essentially the same thing again.

fr0sty wrote on 7/30/2023, 5:40 PM

Can you take a screenshot of what that crash report says? That might point us in the right direction of what is causing the crash.

Crashes like this may be a result of a corrupted deep learning models install. If you have them installed, I would suggest uninstalling those and launch Vegas without them and see if the app opens. If so, then download the models again and reinstall them.

Jennifer-Maslowski wrote on 7/31/2023, 12:18 PM

I uninstalled deep learning, didn't change anything.

Here's a screen shot, I'm not sure how to get to the full crash report in this situation.

Oh sorry here it is.

It appears like it's having difficulty during the hardware detection process, which can indicate an issue with your GPU. You made need to update your graphics driver. Do you know what type of graphics card you have in your computer?

Edit: just saw Derek's comment, being that he's the lead programmer for Vegas, he would be the one to listen to first, so try that first.

Graphics Integrated AMD Radeon™ Graphics

Going to be blunt here--I am SO MUCH NOT a computer person. At all. This computer belongs to my 11 year old who is much, much more savvy than me but can't fix this. So if something needs to be updated, or upgraded, I will either do that or bring it into a shop and have it done...just need to figure out *what* exactly.

@Jennifer-Maslowski Hi, if you right click on the Taskbar at the bottom of your screen - Taskmanager - Performance tab,

Make the window big enough that it shows all the things in the left hand column,

Take screen shots & upload like this

CPU (Processor)

GPU (Graphics card)

fr0sty wrote on 7/31/2023, 2:07 PM

Did you try Radeon's Pro drivers? That may help.

https://www.amd.com/en/technologies/software-pro

I tried what Derek said, taking off deep learning.

If this doesn't work, we may need to get you a support ticket going with official support.

The reason I linked to that particular driver, AMD has drivers for gaming and drivers for professional use... those were the pro drivers I linked to. It may not work, but worth a shot.

If it doesn't help, let us know and we'll work on getting you an official support ticket going. We're just fellow users, so there's only so much we can do to help.

The hardware detection via the GPU is and was not well programmed in Vegas!
My RX 6750 XT is also not recognized. You have to manually set the render profile to 'GPU' and save it. Very annoying.
As AMD driver I use the 23.Q1.1 PRO version.

Your issue doesn't sound like the problem in this thread. Please start your own thread if you need help with something.
If it's rendering, render templates aren't set automatically as there is no best one for all purposes. Even if you have a supported GPU you may not want to use GPU encoding (I tend to use Mainconcept for final renders).

snibchi1 wrote on 8/1/2023, 4:53 AM

I have no problem. I know how to deal with the shortcomings of Vegas. I did not claim that render templates are set automatically.

I notice that your Task Manager screenshots indicate that 80% of your 7 gigabytes of RAM is in use. Since VEGAS itself uses around 1.5 - 2 gigabytes, maybe you just don't have enough RAM?

Speaking as an amateur, here. More knowledgeable types may be able to answer that one.

<edit>

With my PC, a just opened empty VEGAS, along with Vivaldi, RAM usage is at 7.5 gigabytes.

A 100% amateur, making ham-fisted music with my guitar since 1969, soon after seeing Pink Floyd at the Festival Hall, the Albert Hall and the Fairfild Halls.

My main software is Cubase, but I use VEGAS to make videos to post on BitChute and, rarely, on Youtube.

My first computer was an Atari STE 1040, because it could run Cubase and had built-in MIDI ports.

Currently using an i9 12900/Radeon 6700XT machine, 64 gigs RAM, 2 x 32" 1440p monitors, Win 10, VEGAS 20.

OK, I'm posting the different logs as requested. Or LMK how to open a ticket if that would be better. I'm open to upgrading the RAM if that's what's needed.
