I...have no idea what that means.

Let's see exactly what kind of GPU you have, that may be the issue here.

How can I find out which graphics card I have in my PC?

Click Start.

On the Start menu, click Run.

In the Open box, type "dxdiag" (without the quotation marks), and then click OK.

The DirectX Diagnostic Tool opens. ...

On the Display tab, information about your graphics card is shown in the Device section.

Please do the above and let us know what it says.

This still doesn't give us the exact model of the GPU, but it does help... at 4GB of VRAM, if it does meet VEGAS' minimum specs, it's at the very, very bottom end of it... so if you upgrade anything, I'd recommend starting there.

Is this a desktop computer? If so, this would be a good upgrade that isn't super expensive. This goes from 4GB of video RAM to 12, 8 GB is what VEGAS recommends for 4K editing, so this meets that requirement with room to spare.

If you order this and need help getting it installed, we'd be glad to walk you through it.

Talk to me like I'm an idiot (because about this I am).

So can I take the laptop in and have the RAM upgraded? Anything else? (I do have a computer repair/upgrade place I trust.)

I don't know anything about AMD processors, because I've been using Intel and NVidia graphics for years to my full satisfaction. Maybe someone else?

Before we send you to the upgrade shop, let's get it working first.

@VEGASDerek, do you have any more ideas? Any logs we can check or any of that which might help us isolate the cause?

I'd file a support request.

If the only ram slot is soldered you can't add more. (A site like crucial.com can scan the system and see if there is any open slot for ram expansion). More ram is a good idea in general but may or may not solve your problem with Vegas.

You can not upgrade the ram on that laptop, but maybe that's not the problem and someone will have another idea.

In the meantime you could try Capcut for PC to verify if any Video editor is able to work with your AMD IGPU and limited ram, it's free and uses very little resources, 4K project with color grading using under 2GB ram, and under 2GB GPU Vram, as you have 8GB ram in total it may work IF it is compatible with your IGPU and your IGPU is working properly (correct drivers etc)

Capcut (as is my current understanding) requires a GPU but Vegas does not, If it was possible to turn off GPU processing by editing a config before you start Vegas maybe Vegas could start.

Hi Jennifer,

Looks like you are on a merrygoround here.

Try this link to get Magix support.

https://www.magix.info/us/support/form/

I am also very frustrated with Vegas not working correctly. I have submitted a support ticket using this link.

If your software is a VEGAS product (such as VEGAS Pro 20), you need to try and contact https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/support/

(Click VEGAS Pro and go to the end of the opening page and click Contact Support.)

More here.

@Jennifer-Maslowski
Jennifer seem there is another location to submit a support request which looks identical to what I posted but regardless here is the shortcut to the link mentioned above.

https://www.magix.info/us/support/options/

You might have to login again.

Given that you are in the forum Vegas Pro 20 and have posted Vegas Ver 20 screen shots I'm sure you don't need to go through the convoluted method mentioned above.

Hope that helps.

Cheers.

Something in this old FAQ post may help: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-vegas-pro-won-t-start-what-can-i-do--104784/

This seems very significant. Nice.

Thanks all. I don't see any links on the Magix site that indicate Vegas Pro, so I used the Vegas link and submitted. The follow-up page had an image of a hamster that looks identical to mine, so maybe that's positive lol.

@LateralNw

Ok different TLD but same looking form.

From a customer perspective it would make life just that little bit easier if they had one support login and then they disseminate the support question to the relevant department.

One drop down in the first section of the request form should help in it getting to the relevant section of the business.

I guess they are two busy putting out fires to consider something like this.

VEGAS Creative Software is run quasi-independently from what I can tell so while the back-ends may look the same they go to different places. Same with forums, we get lost Magix users from time to time here (and probably vice-versa).
