Vegas pro 21 & 22 Intel Arc Gpu Problem

i bought the Intel Arc A380 GPU specifically for Vegas Pro21 & now 22 to use it as Hardware Decoder. seeing how well the new video engine worked in vegas pro 21 when selecting the igpu on my intel I7 12700k as Hardware Decoder it only had one flaw vegas pro 21 and 22 both used almost all of 15.9gb shared GPU memory usage on the IGPU and after editing a few min almost 31gb would be used by vegas pro then the program would become very sluggish so i have to restart Vegas pro again or sometimes it would eventually crash. When i started using the Intel Arc A380 GPU as Hardware Decoder vegas pro uses Intel Arc A380 VRAM almost all 6gb of it which is what i wanted and everything went well Intel Arc A380 duel media engines like the Intel IGPU are utilized by vegas pro there's lots of system memory & Vram from my rtx3060 left for vegas pro to utilize the problem is after a few of editing the colors of some of the clips would break apart like shown in the screenshot and its completely random it can happen suddenly during playback or rendering. then i have to restart vegas pro 21 or 22 again then the problem disappears then after a while it appears again. Its not just specific to intel ARC A380 there's another post in the forum from a user who is using the Intel Intel Arc A750 Limited Edition & he also seems to be having the same problem. It can happen to clips from any camera that i have either the Sony A74, A7S2, A6400, DJi mini 2, DJI pocket 2, Go Pro hero 8, Iphone 13 Pro Max, Canon T3i. Especially in projects that are 6 min and longer. All my drivers are up to date i hope we get a fix for this in later update.

I read about a memory leak here and have experienced it as well (though not with an Arc system). I do notice that Intel iGPUs can use up to 1/2 of system ram now which can put further strain on the system.

As far as decoding errors, can you share which camera's media it has issues with?

I have listed the cameras above it can have issues with any camera media its completely random as long as i use Intel ARC A380 as hardware decoder i will have this issue.

@Abubakar I have test footage from many of those cameras and don't generally see the issue. But I do usually keep vp22 at its default of video pref gpu the same as i/o decoder. If you could share some test footage with a small test project, I'd be happy to try it on some of my systems.

Thanks for the response Howard & Apologies for the late reply, i didn't saw the email so i wasn't notified, as i mentioned before its completely random with any of the codecs from cameras that i mentioned, you might not even experience this problem i don't experience it while scrubbing through the timeline but after a while it appears and disappears or just never goes away, the same when i render, so after lots of testing i found that you have to use the same GPU for (GPU acceleration of video processing) & (Hardware decoder). If i want to utilize ARC A380 as hardware decoder i have to use intel Arc A380 in GPU acceleration of video processing aswell. If i select Nvidia RTX 3060 for GPU acceleration of video processing and Intel Arc A380 as Hardware decoder then i get this problem. its fine when i select Intel IGPU of my 12700k as hardware decoder and Intel Arc A380 or Nvidia RTX 3060 for GPU acceleration of video processing but i don't want to use the Intel IGPU because it eats all my available ram. Vegas Pro 21 & 22 has issues with ARC A380 when its only used as Hardware decoder. For now it should be used in Both GPU acceleration of video processing and Hardware decoding. I hope we can get a fix for this in the future so we can utilize multiple GPUs for Different type of projects in Vegas Pro without any problems.

While testing this i found something interesting in Vegas Pro 22 previous versions didn't had this. Its regarding Vegas Pro 22 automatically switching to either Nvidia or Intel for decoding depending on the type of codec you are using. Later i will make a separate Post about this.

I'm sticking with vp21 b208 when I need the benefits of video-prefs set to one gpu and i/o set to decode with a different gpu. Vegas is still overhauling and upgrading vp22 internals. So for now, vp22 is only optimal if you set i/o to auto in which case it automatically selects the gpu matching the one selected in video prefs.

Btw, an Arc a770 is a better choice than the a380 as a main gpu for vp22. I had one in my 11900k machine for a while along with a 6900xt and it wasn't bad when I switched to it as the main gpu for smoother multicam cuts... the Arc Battlemage is rumored to be coming out to replace it in early 2025 which may knock a770 prices down if suppliers unload them. At $269us on Newegg they seem pretty low right now.
