hello..
i just swapped my gpu to an rtx 5070ti, and now in vegas 23 278, doesnt show preview of hevc files h265 422 10bit

@BONLEV that's my experience too. If you change the decoder in preferences, file io to QSV they should play back at full speed.

Thank you, but i have an ryzen 9900x cpu.. 😐

Hope they implement rtx 5000 series 422 10bit h265 support.

The hardware have h265 422 10bit decoding capability.. but the software doesn't use it 🙄

Sorry I thought I was writing to someone with an Intel CPU too. If you change hardware decoder to none does the CPU at least decode it?

I also got the 5070 for 422 video knowing that it wasn't yet supported in VEGAS but I suspect it will be before too long.

No issues opening VP22 projects in VP23. One particular project has a lot of Boris FX Continuum and proDAD plugins. No issues at all.

When I move files, when the prompt comes up to locate, I go to the directly I have them in, and then make sure you save the project afterwards.

Yes, with CPU it works, but it’s not editable, it’s sluggish. I hope they bring support for the 5000 series, otherwise I think I’ll give up on Vegas. All other editors have GPU decoding, only Vegas doesn’t. And 90% of today’s recordings are H.265, 4:2:2, 10-bit.

RogerS wrote on 10/5/2025, 7:50 PM

@BogdanRSC Of course they'll add support for the 50XX GPUs full decoding abilities, an engineer already said they began work on it. 90% of the recordings I see are 8-bit AVC followed by 10-bit 420, both of which are decodable today with the GPU in VEGAS.

For 10-bit 422 HEVC I use my iGPU as I built my computer before the 50XX series was announced (if that's 90% of your media today why did you choose AMD? That CPU came out 6 mo. before the 50XX specs were even announced.)

I didn’t know that Intel decodes 4:2:2 10-bit.

Otherwise, I would have gone with Intel.

When I built this setup, I did it hoping it would run 4:2:2 in Vegas, since I work a lot with video files shot with the Sony FX3 (H.265, 4:2:2, 10-bit, 100 Mbps), but I can’t edit them in Vegas. Out of necessity, I learned Premiere, and soon I’ll migrate to DaVinci.

These editors have supported 4:2:2 10-bit and GPU decoding for a long time.

Meanwhile, I’ve been waiting since Vegas v19 for them to implement this as well.

It seems they just can’t do it 🤷

And now, knowing that the Nvidia 5000 series has native 4:2:2 10-bit decoding, which is implemented in all possible editors except Vegas, I hoped that maybe it would run 4:2:2 10-bit in Vegas as well… but no. It feels far behind the competition, and it’s no wonder it has only a 1% market share. I’m convinced that soon Vegas development will be discontinued altogether.

Anyway, it’s a software full of bugs, and with every “new” version, it seems to have more and more issues — freezes, crashes, and so on.

My two cents here: If you look in my signature, notice the "All AMD" computers (CPU & GPU). Three Canon cameras, all 4:2:2 10-bit CLog3 IPB (not IPB light), and the bitrate is around 170 Mbps, which I always use, along with the numerous GoPros'. Even knowing that the RX 7XXX series did not support hardware Encoding/Decoding, like the now nVidia RTX 5XXX series, or those with the Integrated GPU for Intel (since 11th Gen?) or ARC GPU, I didn't worry about it. Shutter Encoder does a fantastic job of "Transcoding" those files to ProRes 422 (Canons') or ProRes 422 LT (GoPros' - yes, even the 5,6, & 7), which runs Beautifully in Vegas Pro!

And, I do "play around" with DaVinci Resolve Free (20.2.1 and previous versions), and you still cannot put a CLog3 4:2:2 10-bit on the timeline, though a transcoded file works fine. As well, Vegas Pro 22, which I was able to put a CLog3 file on the timeline, and have both Video/Audio showing. Not smooth, but better than DaVinci's not showing Video.

For reference, the TRX40 computer is now over 4 years old, with the TRX50 now 2 years old. Not saying have not had some issues, but problems are not only with Vegas Pro. I have had more crash issues with Canon's Digital Photo Professional 4 than anything, and talk about a program that DOES NOT utilize numerous processor cores (physical or logical), reminds me of all the problems people talk about using LightRoom or PhotoShop from Adobe with High Core Counts/Low Frequency.

@RogerS
It seems like you didn't quite read my message properly. I'm being completely serious here. You need to understand this: any MP4 file, specifically ones downloaded from YouTube, even the smallest one at just 10 Megabytes, is causing a major problem.
When I load it into Vegas Pro 23, it immediately starts consuming an extra 2 Gigabytes of RAM, and the preview starts to freeze. Do you get it now?
You can easily check this yourself. Just download any random YouTube video, load it into your own Vegas Pro 23, and see it for yourself. For example, if your Vegas is initially using 1 Gigabyte of RAM, after loading a YouTube MP4, it'll jump up to 3 Gigabytes. This shouldn't be happening—it never used to!
What's more, the preview starts to lag even with a file that's only 10 megabytes—that's just impossible! I have a 14-core processor and work with thousands of files; Vegas Pro 20 never had this issue.
Vegas Team, please fix this! This is unacceptable.
Sincerely - Anonimous😎

@AUDIS-8
I don't now how to read your message properly, but I heard clearly that you have an issue. Please help us understand it more fully. I don't see that any MP4 file causes a major problem so we need to dig deeper. 80% of my media is MP4 and 20% MOV. What's in them ranges from ProRes to AVC to HEVC with differences in bit depth. Consuming additional ram is a feature, it's caching it. Remember when everyone was complaining VEGAS didn't use their full GPU resources? It is now.

Here the preview never freezes. I have a 14 core processor and 12GB VRAM GPU.

A raw download from YouTube gave me VP9/Opus which is not editable in VEGAS (or much else). I could re-encode it for VEGAS, which some of the downloaders do automatically but then we get into exactly what settings you choose. Please help us understand which ones are problematic.

VEGAS has decoded 10 bit 422 with Intel GPUs for years; I've done it with this desktop for the past 3 years in fact.

NVIDIA 50XX only rolled out this year halfway through the annual VEGAS software development cycle. So too late for 22 but should make it into 23.

Another user with an all AMD computer that often edits 4K 10bit 422 150Mbps MOV files from Panasonic. I've been doing this for years without transcoding. I'm just too lazy and I edit right along ok.

I'd love to have @Chief24's GPU, but funds don't allow it 😉. As for DaVinci Resolve, I have the Studio version with the Speed Editor. Wife plugged the trigger several years ago. While I can edit with it, Vegas fits me better. But it certainly has some wonderful features for sure.

VP23 does have some early "teething pains" at the moment. VP22 works great for me. But as far as Nvidia 50xx series and 422 go, this is a screenshot from inside Vegas HUB.

So it is only a matter of time....

Yeah.. this is a new one..
Besides freezes, crash after crash, constant errors popping up..
what else can I say? Vegas is done.. it’s not worth even $2/month.. let alone $20..
The trial period is ending soon, so I won’t be continuing with Vegas

I’ve had enough of how much it annoyed me!

Honestly, if someone wants help, supplying a sample file that doesn't work should not be a big thing. It will help determine if it is a "global" (everyone) issue or not.

Thanks to this message and my genuine desire to respond to it and help the VEGAS Team, I embarked on a mission. It took me three days of experimentation to isolate the 6 specific files that are causing VEGAS to throw an error message, which in turn prevents other files from loading completely.

There's something else... pinpointing this entire problem took me a couple of weeks of testing, and a lot of coffee was consumed!

• If I set the Video - parameters to NVIDIA RTX and the File I/O parameters to Intel Graphics, the file works perfectly and the project runs smoothly.

• BUT. As well - mannered People, We naturally want to use the full power of our dedicated graphics card whenever possible. If we select the NVIDIA RTX card for the File I/O parameters - the project - specifically when using this particular video file - immediately freezes. VEGAS stops working. If you zoom in on this file or try to work with it, VEGAS crashes and the program shuts down.

• However, if I switch the File I/O setting from NVIDIA RTX back to Intel Iris (or Intel Graphics), everything works fine. This particular glitch does not occur in both the VEGAS 20 Gold and Platinum editions simultaneously.

So, that's my Answer.

Interestingly, while I was compiling this report and working on it, I realized that by answering you, I actually found the answers to my own questions!)))))

Now I know exactly which files were driving my program crazy🤣

Call to Action for the VEGAS Team😎

Err.... how about again, supplying the necessary native files? What is the issue why you haven't done it yet?

You want the Vegas team to work with what.... air?

You want verification of what data? You haven't supplied the files. Really....

Alright, I will try to do it, okay if real need it…But I did what I did thanks to this message
With a link describing how to do it, and this is, so to speak, the file’s metadata.
So why should I write this down? And in general, why do it at all if it’s just air…

RogerS wrote on 10/6/2025, 9:50 PM

@AUDIS-8
Thanks, this metadata is very helpful! That's interesting that it's working fine with QSV but not NVDEC.
It seems that this MPEG2/BVOP and MPEG-PS formats were relatively recently migrated to mxcompoundplug.dll.

Format                                   : MPEG Video
Format version                           : Version 2
Format profile                           : Main@Main
Format settings                          : BVOP

For the file that immediately crashes I couldn't quite tell is that the m4v that is opening with so4compound? Could you privately make it available? I have 2 NVIDIA systems here to test with.
In general I suggest to work with media that opens with mxcompound. I can't tell from the metadata what's making it open with the older decoder -does renaming it to mp4 force it to open with MxCompound and does that avoid crashes?

I've seen other reports of issues with MPEG-TS but not -PS. Is it possible to make a sample file with MPEG-PS available or testing? I don't have any of those here.

Been using VP since version 13, latest was 22. VP23 looks good in general, but I am facing two nasty things (project was established with VP22):

1.) I have added text entries on top tracks. I don't see them in the preview if GPU is disabled. To see them I need to keep GPU enabled.

2.) Rendering halts every time if GPU is enabled. If disabled, I don't get the texts in the output.

VP 22 did not have this problem. Admit, my HW is a tad old, AMD 5900HX with integrated graphics, drivers from 2023. I just ordered a new laptop with HX 370 and 5070Ti. Hopefully it works better, but to me it looks like a bug if the preview or output does not show everything regardless of the GPU setting.

Spent a couple of days with the project, rendering the 36 minute video takes about 3 hours. It is a bit slow to test. I could tolerate the rendering time (hopefully the new hw will help) if it wouldn't crash and include all tracks in the output.

Any tips welcome!

How do I change my subscription from monthly payment to annual?

Oden-Eriksson wrote on 10/7/2025, 9:50 AM

Older *.veg files created with 22.0 does not open correctly with 23.0. I have very simple projects containing only of an audio file (a song), a picture and the song lyrics as subtitles. One project, the most recent one (created today) opens correctly in (and created with) 22.0 but is missing the sound file and the sub titles with 23.0. Another project opens fine except that the subtitle track does not show, but works anyway, really weird. I don't know if this is a known problem or maybe I'm doing something wrong. I tried to regenerate the missing sub title track and that ones shows correctly. Luckily I didn't uninstall 22.0.

Here's the same *.veg file loaded with v22.0 and v23.0. This project had the sound file intact with v23.0, but where is the sub title track? You see the text in the preview but not as a track, so where is it?

And just like that the project I was having problems with started to work. It may not work the next time I open the project.

It's worth mentioning I made a soft link (using "mklink") of a folder in my "Music" folder pointing to another drive and place because I ran out of disk space. So, I just opened another project and got a dialog it could not find a file, and I entered the search function. After that all files were found and all is fine, but maybe not the next time I open that particular project. Ah, just tried and got the same dialog. So, maybe soft linking a directory don't work here or I do something wrong.

Ok, this is very intermittent. Today everything's OK. If I open an older project the "search for media" may appear, but if I cancel it all media is there anyway, but this only happen to one project. Note, I haven't written to the *.veg files yet. I will report progress on this when I figure out what is wrong.

Here is the link to the VOB file..

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1VW53OoUeNo7TEef7PN0v3Bboc9HwSJS8/view?usp=sharing

This error always occurs with it on Vegas 23 and Vegas 22.. as you can see, such behavior does not happen on Vegas 20..

Here is an example video

Here is the link to the MPG file.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1hElPNmZAo0rJHx7VTWiFKI39o_Mp6LWy/view?usp=sharing

The MPG file does the same thing as the VOB file.. see the example below in the video. As we can observe, Vegas 20 handles it perfectly here as well.. so it's sad to see such a great program like Vegas 23 making such beginner mistakes..

And this file is M4V.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Prw2WYaZpwAhCrw3FWHG1Ry5VN_f9m5v/view?usp=sharing

This file is straight from Alice in Wonderland, as I described in the post above. This file crashes the program if the settings are set to -
Video GPU - NVIDIA
and
File I/O - NVIDIA.
Here is an example video

If you work with the file for a little while, after a couple of minutes or maybe sooner, the program crashes with these settings. But if you set the parameters like this in the settings:

Video GPU - NVIDIA
and
File I/O - INTEL IRIS,

Then the file can be worked on normally, and the program does not crash. I want to emphasize again that this does not happen in Vegas 20 Pro.

🥷❤️

Thank you! This is helpful. The video engine rebuild started circa VP 21 so that 20 and 22/23 behave differently is expected. Hopefully any regressions from 20 can be fixed.

RogerS wrote on 10/7/2025, 10:27 PM

One interesting thing- here the m4v file is opening with MXCompound. Preferences/ file io is on defaults (legacy AVC unchecked). The GPU in use is my RTX 4060 mobile from the laptop in my signature.

I made a few cuts, put it on a loop and am jumping between them. 5 minutes later and still stable.
VEGAS can't seem to read the audio for files 4 and 5 and that's the cause of the error message most likely.

In 21.208 VEGAS can't see the VOB (though you can drag it in from Windows explorer) open and 00-5 crashes VEGAS upon opening the file (decoding with QSV). 00-6 works normally.

hello! why is this happening? frame skipping when in edit, and in after render...
This happens regardless of the video files, project, or settings.
It only doesn’t happen when “legacy AVC” is selected, but then it runs slowly with 3–4 video layers, and during export there’s a chance it will freeze.

@BogdanRSC Could you create a new post about this issue and please include MediaInfo? https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-to-post-mediainfo-and-vegas-pro-file-properties--104561/

If you could include a short sample of media that isn't decoding right that's very helpful.

The short answer appears to be a problem decoding this footage with the newer MxCompound decoder. I assume there are no Fx applied to this media?

Frame skipping happens randomly, on various clips. After I restart the project, it disappears, but then it comes back whenever it wants. In Vegas 21 this problem didn’t exist. About v22 I don’t know anything, I haven’t used v22.

These are the effects used in v23 on that clip.
But that frame skipping appears regardless of whether I used effects or not.
