VEGAS Pro 23 build 302 General Discussion

I have Vegas Pro 23 in the latest BETA (302) version and was having a horrible experience with constant crashes. I noticed that I went from occasional crashes to constant ones and couldn’t figure out why. After some analysis, I realized that Windows 11 had automatically updated to version 25H2, and I suspected that might be the cause of the frequent crashes. I tried to roll back to version 24H2, but since more than 10 days had passed, it wasn’t possible.

The only solution I found was to change the program’s compatibility mode to Windows 10 and run it as Administrator. It worked like a miracle — perfect, no more crashes at all. Later, I decided to disable the “Run as Administrator” option because drag and drop to the timeline stopped working.

However, for anyone using Windows 11 version 25H2 and experiencing frequent crashes, try setting Vegas Pro to run in compatibility mode for Windows 10 (it might not be straightforward, but if you ask ChatGPT, it can guide you step by step). Hope this helps!

Windows11 25H2, but I noticed a lot of crashes with this version (VP23 build 302), so I work with VP23 in Windows 10 compatibility mode. It has been working very well.

I film with Fuji cameras, namely the Fujifilm X-T4, X-H2S, X-S10, and X-S20. I also use DJI drones, including the Mini 4 Pro.

I'm running V23 302 with Win 25H2 with no issues so there is something going on in your system causing the conflict. The issue I had around the time I changed to 25H2 was with my internet connection, sites not loading and connection being reset. Also very frustrating. I also rolled back to 24H2 but this did not fix it or rolling back some of the updates. The only way was for me to go into the advanced setting for the Ethernet adaptor and disable some of the network parameters (I used the youtube make your gaming PC connection run fast with minimum lag, also my MTU value was the default of 1500 which was being fragmented so changing this to 1450 turned out to be the max size without fragmentation - helps speed up the connection). My guess is you may need some more investigation into what may be happening. The media used is one of the most probmatical issue to cause Vegas to crash so maybe post that on this site for further help.

I've attached a video link below showing the terrible lag when I switch to the Project Media tab. The thumbnails take so long to load that I can't work or use the program at all during that time. In version 22, the same thing happened when I opened the Explorer tab and entered the video files folder. The problem is so severe that it disrupts my work so much that I can't do anything. I've been using Vegas for over 14 years. I've had various problems over that time, but what's happening now is a complete disaster. I'm on the verge of giving up on Magix services. Today I even installed the free version of DaVinci, and what I saw was a complete disaster. Everything works smoothly there and doesn't complicate my work. Can anyone help me? The files I'm using are from an FX3 camera, 4K, XAVC S H.264, 10-bit, 50 fps.

I'm sure this is a bug in vegas pro 23,
the normal editing tool (timeline cursor) which is the tool you go back and forth with,
In all the versions I had never failed in Vegas Pro 23, yes, before I always edited very quickly and I moved from one side to the other in the timeline, it instantly played in the place where I positioned the cursor, and so super fast, but now this doesn't work for me, it is impossible for me to edit like that, now it can't be done, you have to stop, put the cursor in another position and press play again with the space bar to make it play again, and sometimes it doesn't even work like that, you have to be stopping the playback of the video in the timeline, to go and position the cursor at another point and so everything is very bad
I have realized that when you start editing and you have a few clips it doesn't happen, but when you already have several channels, one on top of the other, it gets stuck, and you can't easily scroll through the timeline, you have to pause and position yourself in the place you want and then press play again, this is very slow, and it's a total failure for me, please a solution

Dexcon wrote on 10/18/2025, 1:22 AM

@Rodrigo-Gastelum  ... To change the playback point on the timeline during continuous playback (normal editing tool) without having to stop playback, the mouse cursor needs to be clicked just above the Time Ruler:

Clicking on the timeline itself doesn't change the playback point in Vegas Pro 23 and nor did it in VP22, VP21 or even VP16 and VP13 all the latter of which, as just tested to confirm, also require clicking above the Time Ruler in order to change the playback position during continuous playback.

It's curious that you have had a different experience with pre-VP23 versions. Could you test the playback behaviour in one of your older Vegas Pro versions to make sure that playback position changes can indeed be achieved by clicking the timeline itself during continuous playback?

I agree that Project Media is so slow it is virtually unusable for a project with 100's of clips. The thumbnails are not cached it appears, so every time the Project Media window is opened or even scrolled up and down the thumbnails are redrawn, and slowly at that.
That is not the case with the new Explorer in VP23 which works well. Thumbnails are cached so on opening different folders if you've it visited once already the thumbnails will be there instantly. Hopefully proejct media will be simillarly updated soon.
It would be nice if the timeline menu 'Select in Project Media List' could also have a corresponding 'Select in Explorer Folder'.

Hello,

I have a Vegas 23 license valid until November 7. It was purchased for one month, and I canceled the monthly contract with the intention of buying a yearly one instead.

If I pay for a yearly plan now, considering that my current license is still active for another 3 weeks, will the current license continue (be extended), or should I wait until it expires and then start the one-year subscription after this paid month ends?

I don’t see anywhere in the service center an option to purchase, extend the license, or change the type of subscription.

I only find a “deactivate” option.

I've been using VEGAS Pro for more than 10 years. This upgrade to VEGAS Pro 23 is the best ever. Stable as a rock, with all handy features easy to find and to use. Love it!

@HelgeK Thanks for the positive feedback. Glad version 23 is rock solid for you.

My license just got upgraded to VP23, but it seems that the Mocha Pro integration went back to the days before VP21. Which is absolutely driving me crazy, I just got used to the seemless integration. See the pictures below for more context. I am using Mocha Pro 2025.5, I already tried reinstalling both

.

^ This is how it worked in VP22, a simple button to create my track data and off I go fixing the stabilization options within VEGAS.

But when I used Mocha Pro on VP23, this is how the dialog box looks.

The plugin itself works fine, but the "Track Data" column is missing entirely. Causing me to use the old method used in VP20, creating .txt files and needing to select those from the Motion Tracking VEGAS interface.

I know one screenshot is Mocha VEGAS and the other one is Mocha PRO. Everything worked in VP22, but I dont have VP22 installed anymore. So it's a screenshot I grabbed from the internet

And my VEGAS also sometimes has a weird lagg spike when I unpause certain footage, but its extremely inconsistent, so I couldn't recreate it. But i see those 3 dots popping up next to the frame count. (I certainly hope someone has the same problem who can explain it with more detail.)

Im on windows 11 23h2 with the latest feature pack. All my drivers are up-to-date.

Using the latest NVIDIA 581.57 drivers.

@mieho  ... The first image that you uploaded is not of Mocha Pro - it is from Mocha Vegas that was available in Vegas Pro Suite 21 and 22 (version licensed-locked). Unfortunately, Mocha Vegas is not a feature in Vegas Pro 23 Suite and consequently Mocha Vegas from previous VP Suite versions does not function in Vegas Pro 23 Suite.

To use track or shape data export from Mocha Pro 2025.5, it will be necessary to revert to the process that started in Mocha Pro from Vegas Pro 19 and later.

If you have Vegas Pro Suite by subscription, you could uninstall Vegas Pro 23 Suite and reinstall Vegas Pro 22 Suite which should give you access again to Mocha Vegas.

Quick first impression

-it doesn't memorize my preference my video tab preferences (create video proxi, number of threat rendering, dynamic ram preview)

-It eats up all my computer ram (40GB) when I modify dynamic ram preview and I turn vegas off in Windows task manager, otherwise it still use all the RAM computer

- If I don't modify dynamic ram, it uses 5 gb more than Vegas 19

-It use more than GPU memory than the Vegas 19 version.

-But in the other hand, the GUI seems really more confortable to use

@Dexcon I know, I mentioned that in my post, but the dialog boxes are identical for Mocha Pro and Mocha Vegas. I never had a Mocha Vegas license. I’ve always been supplied with the full Mocha Pro that plugs in to OFX. But Mocha Pro still had that “Create Track Data” in VP22. I used VP22 and Mocha Pro until last week. And that integration is gone, I dont need anything Mocha Vegas, it was just an example I used. I’m also not asking for a Mocha Vegas 23, I’m just seeing if the old integration can be brought back.

Thank you

@mieho  ... Given that the last update to Vegas Pro 22 was some 5 months ago, it wouldn't seem likely that the Vegas team has made any recent changes to the Mocha Pro FX window (thus possibly requiring a new update); rather, it may be that BorisFX has withdrawn the track data field in Mocha Pro 2025.5.0 / .1 / or the recently released .2. You may wish to ask about this on BorisFX's forum at https://forum.borisfx.com/ and/or, if you've recently updated Mocha Pro to 2025.5.2, uninstall Mocha Pro and install the earlier Mocha Pro version that previously worked for you in Vegas Pro 22 to see if that brings back the track data function in Mocha Pro's VP FX window. @Dexcon I'm on Mocha Pro 2025.5.2 OFX (12.5.2). But the problem is, this exact version of Mocha Pro had the "Create Track Data" in VP22, it was gone the moment I went to VP23, both build 278 and 302.

I reinstalled VP22 just to check without touching anything in my Mocha Pro and my "Create Track Data" button popped up like it was never gone. I get where you are coming from but i highly doubt this has to do something with BorisFX. And yes, I could go back to VP22, but VP23 is much more stable for me, crashes way less, renders take way less time and the preview is way smoother when you stack a few FX. And it would be a pain in the butt to not use the €150 license I got provided with.

I sincerely thank you for trying to help me. But I would love for the VEGAS team to just check the status on this or provide the reason why the button isn't there anymore.

I'll provide you with screenshots that are both mine to make it clearer for everybody.

^^ This is my VP23, build 302. Mocha Pro OFX 2025.5.2 This is the entire dialog box. The entire "Track Data" column is missing, its not just the button.

^^ And without touching anything. Just reinstalling, activating and opening VP22 build 250, would you look at that. Right back where it is supposed to be. Same plugin, same video source, same system, same plugin version, different VEGAS version.

I made some edits to this comment, because I got confused on my Mocha Pro version. I updated to 2025.5.2 right before updating to VP23. All screenshots were made with Mocha Pro 2025.5.2 (12.5.2) installed.

Vegas 23 render speed is faster for sure. I did not see the increase in render speed using the trial version, but it's really apparent with a licensed copy. I'm seeing render speeds in the 170-fps range (i9-14,900K; RTXA2000 12GB). This is with sharpness, color control corrections, and some use of the color correction utilities. This alone makes the upgrade worth for me. However, the color correction workflow has gone through some nice changes too.

The trial version has a logo, which is why the rendering is slow.
After I bought version 23, I noticed that the render speed is at least 30% faster than in version 21 on an RTX 3080.
And now, with an RTX 5070 Ti, the render speed has doubled compared to the setup mentioned above.

As for bugs, I’ve found that it has frame skipping during editing, but if I restart the project before exporting, the issue disappears.
Since I updated to build 302, about 90% of the problems I had with the launch version have disappeared.
Now I’m waiting for an update to add support for NVIDIA RTX 5000 series for HEVC 4:2:2 10-bit decoding.
Unfortunately, I have an AMD CPU, and HEVC 4:2:2 decoding through the CPU is very slow.

In that regard, Vegas is far behind the competition.
In DaVinci, I have no problems with HEVC 4:2:2, nor in Premiere.
But I need fast workflow speed, which I’ve only found in Vegas… so yeah, we’re waiting for them to unlock GPU support :))

I did a quick test, but even the AVI videos with transperency disappear during rendering...disappointing
