VEGAS Pro 23 build 302 General Discussion

I have Vegas Pro 23 in the latest BETA (302) version and was having a horrible experience with constant crashes. I noticed that I went from occasional crashes to constant ones and couldn’t figure out why. After some analysis, I realized that Windows 11 had automatically updated to version 25H2, and I suspected that might be the cause of the frequent crashes. I tried to roll back to version 24H2, but since more than 10 days had passed, it wasn’t possible.

The only solution I found was to change the program’s compatibility mode to Windows 10 and run it as Administrator. It worked like a miracle — perfect, no more crashes at all. Later, I decided to disable the “Run as Administrator” option because drag and drop to the timeline stopped working.

However, for anyone using Windows 11 version 25H2 and experiencing frequent crashes, try setting Vegas Pro to run in compatibility mode for Windows 10 (it might not be straightforward, but if you ask ChatGPT, it can guide you step by step). Hope this helps!

Windows11 25H2, but I noticed a lot of crashes with this version (VP23 build 302), so I work with VP23 in Windows 10 compatibility mode. It has been working very well.

I film with Fuji cameras, namely the Fujifilm X-T4, X-H2S, X-S10, and X-S20. I also use DJI drones, including the Mini 4 Pro.

I'm running V23 302 with Win 25H2 with no issues so there is something going on in your system causing the conflict. The issue I had around the time I changed to 25H2 was with my internet connection, sites not loading and connection being reset. Also very frustrating. I also rolled back to 24H2 but this did not fix it or rolling back some of the updates. The only way was for me to go into the advanced setting for the Ethernet adaptor and disable some of the network parameters (I used the youtube make your gaming PC connection run fast with minimum lag, also my MTU value was the default of 1500 which was being fragmented so changing this to 1450 turned out to be the max size without fragmentation - helps speed up the connection). My guess is you may need some more investigation into what may be happening. The media used is one of the most probmatical issue to cause Vegas to crash so maybe post that on this site for further help.

I've attached a video link below showing the terrible lag when I switch to the Project Media tab. The thumbnails take so long to load that I can't work or use the program at all during that time. In version 22, the same thing happened when I opened the Explorer tab and entered the video files folder. The problem is so severe that it disrupts my work so much that I can't do anything. I've been using Vegas for over 14 years. I've had various problems over that time, but what's happening now is a complete disaster. I'm on the verge of giving up on Magix services. Today I even installed the free version of DaVinci, and what I saw was a complete disaster. Everything works smoothly there and doesn't complicate my work. Can anyone help me? The files I'm using are from an FX3 camera, 4K, XAVC S H.264, 10-bit, 50 fps.

I'm sure this is a bug in vegas pro 23,
the normal editing tool (timeline cursor) which is the tool you go back and forth with,
In all the versions I had never failed in Vegas Pro 23, yes, before I always edited very quickly and I moved from one side to the other in the timeline, it instantly played in the place where I positioned the cursor, and so super fast, but now this doesn't work for me, it is impossible for me to edit like that, now it can't be done, you have to stop, put the cursor in another position and press play again with the space bar to make it play again, and sometimes it doesn't even work like that, you have to be stopping the playback of the video in the timeline, to go and position the cursor at another point and so everything is very bad
I have realized that when you start editing and you have a few clips it doesn't happen, but when you already have several channels, one on top of the other, it gets stuck, and you can't easily scroll through the timeline, you have to pause and position yourself in the place you want and then press play again, this is very slow, and it's a total failure for me, please a solution

@Rodrigo-Gastelum  ... To change the playback point on the timeline during continuous playback (normal editing tool) without having to stop playback, the mouse cursor needs to be clicked just above the Time Ruler:

Clicking on the timeline itself doesn't change the playback point in Vegas Pro 23 and nor did it in VP22, VP21 or even VP16 and VP13 all the latter of which, as just tested to confirm, also require clicking above the Time Ruler in order to change the playback position during continuous playback.

It's curious that you have had a different experience with pre-VP23 versions. Could you test the playback behaviour in one of your older Vegas Pro versions to make sure that playback position changes can indeed be achieved by clicking the timeline itself during continuous playback?

I see that the previous post from VP23 has disappeared. I have a problem that the Transparency with the MOV files does not work. The transparency with AVI files is successful. I have activated Quicktime in Deprecated Features. I will send a video showing the problem in VP23

I agree that Project Media is so slow it is virtually unusable for a project with 100's of clips. The thumbnails are not cached it appears, so every time the Project Media window is opened or even scrolled up and down the thumbnails are redrawn, and slowly at that.
That is not the case with the new Explorer in VP23 which works well. Thumbnails are cached so on opening different folders if you've it visited once already the thumbnails will be there instantly. Hopefully proejct media will be simillarly updated soon.
It would be nice if the timeline menu 'Select in Project Media List' could also have a corresponding 'Select in Explorer Folder'.

Hello,

I have a Vegas 23 license valid until November 7. It was purchased for one month, and I canceled the monthly contract with the intention of buying a yearly one instead.

If I pay for a yearly plan now, considering that my current license is still active for another 3 weeks, will the current license continue (be extended), or should I wait until it expires and then start the one-year subscription after this paid month ends?

I don’t see anywhere in the service center an option to purchase, extend the license, or change the type of subscription.

I only find a “deactivate” option.

Yes it works as you told me when you click on the bar above, but this did not happen before, in fact I use Vegas Pro 20, and I also have licenses of 17, 18, 20, 21 and 22, only that from 21 and 22 onwards the program never gave me a fluid preview, they run very heavy, and it was very difficult to work with them in projects full of layers, in Vegas Pro 23 the very fluid editing works very well, they fixed it. That's it, the only problem is that this happens to me, and as you can see in the videos it doesn't happen to me in other versions, not even in 21 or 22.
