Vegas Pro 23, how to rendez with transparent background?

DiegoDimanche wrote on 1/29/2026, 9:58 AM

Hi everyone! I use Vegas Pro since 2016 so I'm pretty used to it but I'm struggling to render videos with a transparent background since I moved from Vegas Pro 22 to Vegas Pro 23... Usually I would go on "render as", select "QuickTime 7" and there you go, you have a video in .mov with a transparent background.

But in Vegas Pro 23 the sections aren't the same, there's new rendering propositions such as "ProRes", which idk what's it for, but there's no longer "QuickTime 7"...

If someone had the same issue and found out how to successfully render a video in .mov with transparent background I'd be happy to know how! ^^

Thank you by avance

Loghan

@DiegoDimanche I know the render window has changed in VP23, so you'll have to work it out.

In VP22 ProRes XQ/ProRes 444 have an alpha channel that will give you a transparent background.

Hi, thanks for the answer! It turns out I figured out how to render videos with transparent background, using ProRes 444 HQ, but the thing is, once rendered the colors are off, it's darker and greyer... Would you happen to know how to fix this color issue?

@DiegoDimanche I know the render window has changed in VO23, so you'll have to work it out.

In VP22 ProRes XQ/ProRes 444 have an alpha channel that will give you a transparent background.

Hi, thanks for the answer! Yeah I ended up figuring out that ProRes 444 (HQ) was what I was looking for in order ro render with transparent background. But the thing is, once rendered the colors are off, it's darker and greyer... Would you happen to know how to fix this color issue?

@DiegoDimanche could you show us a screenshot of the timeline you want to render to ProRes with alpha channel?

Here's two screenshots, the first one is the video with the original colors, and the second one is how the colors look once it's rendered.

Thanks. I've encountered an issue though, I managed to render the video with transparent background but the colors are off. Here's two screenshots, the first one there's the original colors and in the second one, how it looks after rendering the video (the colors are way darker).

I've never encountered this issue with Vegas Pro 22 or prior... ><

@DiegoDimanche I don't follow this issue Link: VEGAS Pro 23 build 302 General Discussion closely, but you may have to stay on Vegas Pro 22-250 until the next 23 update if you do this kind of work.

Oh well at least it's comforting that it's a known issue that everyone has and not just me. ^^

I guess I should go back to Vegas Pro 22 but I already have work in progress with Vegas Pro 23 so I won't be able to switch these in 22... I guess we'll see.

I always can work like this and change the colors afterwards but it'll be quite annoying to do so every single time... ><

Btw can I use both Vegas Pro 22 and 23 at the same time without paying two subscriptions? Because I always can work on masks with transparent background on 22 and the rest on 23 bit not if I have to pay twice... ><
