Vegas Pro Build 300 Audio Problem

Freefly wrote on 4/9/2024, 5:17 AM

I have checked this on a couple of projects and the audio for speaking clips (possibly mono) are very slow! Any ideas? I see there are quite a few other errors too. The last version for me that worked was 108. Can we re-install that and if so, could you let me have a link to the download please. I have work to do. Thanks : )

Hi, I'm having the same problem you mentioned with the build 300. But for some reason couldn't see the fix you mentioned by Roger :( Could you please tell me how you solved it? Thanks!

I have the same problem since the build 300. The Fix from Roger (saying to click the legacy AVC decoding in the Preferences/ File I/O) doesn't work. It's worse for me because i hear only a glitch sound now.

@JeanGuy-Gelinas This sounds like a different issue if even the old so4compound plugin doesn't work well with it. Can you create a new thread and include MediaInfo for the media, share your system CPU and GPU models and describe what the glitch is like? Would be great to know about additional issues with 300.

I was having the same slow-warped speech sounding issue when importing mixed media. I tried many different settings in Movavi Media Converter to experiment with multiple different filetypes, bitrates, audio codecs, etc... Finally decided to do a Google search which landed me here and checking the "enable legacy AVC decoding" fixed it up for me after a couple of hours of pulling my hair out. Thanks all for the input.

I'm having a different problem effectively. I'm having fast-warped speech sounding issue when importing mixed media. My original audio file is AC3 stereo (2 channels), After build 300 installed, my audio file became mono and 3 different channels with a mickey mouse voice sound. See files attached. Sorry, I have a 49 inches monitor and i hope you can see something...

mark-y wrote on 4/10/2024, 5:21 PM

AC3 support was limited for a long time; sounds like they've made some codec changes and they need more work.

VEGASSteve wrote on 4/11/2024, 9:19 AM

Hello all, the AC-3 audio shall be routed to the same plugin, regardless the legacy options. There have also been noo recent changes. One try can be to delete the side-car files near the original clip, *.sfk. Otherwise a sample file would be very helpful. MediaInfo states a quite regular AC-3 file with stereo channels, that shall work theoretically.

VEGASSteve wrote on 4/11/2024, 9:23 AM

There was a known problem with 1 channel mono AAC sound, but it should be theoretically fixed in this version.

Maybe the same problem occurs with AC-3 audio and 1 channel mono. with a sample file I could do a quick fix than. Also MP4 with AC-3 audio seems to be a very rare combination, I have never seen a device that records this.

VEGASSteve wrote on 4/12/2024, 8:10 AM

So far it looks as if the AAC mono audio fix is missing in the first release. We will provide it with the next update. Please check messages from @VEGASDerek when an update will be available.
If you experience audio speed problems (audio way too slow or too fast aka. Mickey Mouse) please check if it has 1 channel mono audio.

The fix will NOT apply to any AC-3 files, so sample footage would be still very helpful.

JeanGuy-Gelinas wrote on 4/12/2024, 9:52 AM

Thanks @VEGASSteve for your informations. I forgot to mention that I have an official purchased version of Vegas Pro 21. I know problems can occur with pirated versions.

I deleted the side-car files near the original clip, *.sfk, with no results after importing the original file into Vegas Pro 21. I uploaded a part of the original file into this Forum. I had to cut it to 1 minute long because its too big.

There was no problems with the previous build of Vegas Pro 21 with this combination of MP4 Video and AC3 audio. I'm using this combination because I use DVD Architect (DVDA) to build and burn Bluray disks. This software needs AC3 audio for this purpose so I prepare my whole video with this in mind, preventing reencoding if I start with another audio codec.

As I said, I had no problems with earlier build 208. I could go back to this build 208 but I would not be able to use any advanced technologies that most recent build would bring to Vegas Pro 21.

@VEGASSteve @RogerS Thank you guys for your help. It was my first post on the Vegas Forum and I'm very happy for the support. I hope my reported issue and solution found by @VEGASSteve will help others. I'm just curious how he could found the solution...and what caused it initially. Not a mandatory request though...😉

VEGASSteve wrote on 4/17/2024, 7:54 AM

We simply did not have the combination of MP4 with AC-3 audio in stereo in the test case. This is an extremely rare case, I wonder, which device did record this?

JQuill wrote on 4/17/2024, 3:24 PM

I've had this problem with Zoom recordings , even ones downloaded before the 300 update. I've had no problems with OBS recordings. Hope the patch comes soon.

JeanGuy-Gelinas wrote on 4/18/2024, 12:16 PM

@VEGASSteve The main Video and Audio files come from ripping DVDs with the latest version of the Handbrake software. This is the best ripping software I have found. I could have chosen the MKV codec but Vegas Pro 21 doesn't always like it. My files on DVDs come from pretty old video feed like 720x576 PAL 4:3 interlaced. I'm using Vegas Pro 21 for editing the files and making corrections on the video (color and so) and the sound quality before preparing menus with DVD Architect (DVDA) and burning the result on Blu Rays.

I have produced 36 Blu Ray disks (50 GB each) in the last 3 months with this combination of MP4 and AC-3 without problems. My 4K Blu Ray machine can read them without problems.

As I said earlier, I have no choice of audio codec other than AC-3 because of the restriction by DVDA when producing and burning Blu rays. I haven't found yet any better software than DVDA to do the job.

VEGASSteve wrote on 4/22/2024, 4:05 AM

@JeanGuy-Gelinas thank you for the details, interesting use case. I hope that the problems are fully fixed with the next update.
