Vegas Pro Cutting off last few seconds of OBS files that I import

Gary-Nargiz wrote on 7/11/2024, 2:25 PM

First, I am a 25-year user of Vegas for video production so not a newbie to this. Second i have been using Vegas Pro 21 since its release. On a everyday basis i record zoom video depositions to a laptop using OBS then import those files into Vegas and render them to mpeg-4 without a single issue. Now i have a big issue with Vegas cutting off the last few seconds of files. So, the question is why is that? What changed in the recent release to screw this up? The issue is Vegas cuts off the last few seconds of the files. Sometimes it cuts off the entire audio and video clip in the timeline and sometimes as it just did today the video and audio appear at the end of the clip in the timeline complete with the audio waveform, but it will not play back the last few seconds of audio. What the heck did they screw up with the program to cause this? No other editor i own has this issue, i can use the same exact OBS files in Resolve or Masteringworks and no problem, no issue, both of those programs display the entire clip and render it perfectly. Finely It doesn't matter what laptop i try it on, same problem, same problem in windows 10 or 11, same problem rendering with the GPU or not. I can't believe I just paid to upgrade this program and its preforming this poorly.

@Gary-Nargiz Hi, the latest versions are messed up, Build (315) try the Legacy AVC option in Preferences File I/O or as it seems many have done revert to an earlier build, you can download it here, (208) is the one recommended in other posts. https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/vegas-pro-vegas-post-release-history--104998/

@Gary-Nargiz

Share a sample of your media on a cloud drive and post the link here. Others will analyze and support you to get this fixed.

First, I am a 25-year user of Vegas for video production

Since this is your first post on the Vegas Creative Software forum, and since the first Sonic Foundry version of Vegas Video was introduced less than twenty five years ago, I feel compelled to assume that:

  1. You are referring to Vegas Video 2, released on June 12, 2000, twenty-four years and forty-one days ago.
  2. That we know each other! I also was an early adopter and member of the very first Sonic Foundry forum.
  3. It is incomprehensible to me to think that you have been in hiding for twenty-four years, not living under a bridge, and that we have a multitude of memories, anecdotes, and camaraderie to share, and stories to reminisce about the old Madison gang of 13.

Please forgive me, @Gary-Nargiz, your current user name is completely unfamiliar to me. Who were you then? What username did you display? Did you know Bob? This enquiring mind is eager to know!!

And welcome back! 👄😍💕👅👐

@Gary-Nargiz I can guess that the decoding changes with build 300 and newer are causing this issue. Can you share exactly the OBS settings you used so we can replicate it (even better- can you also provide a short test file?)

Does checking "enable legacy AVC" or "experimental HEVC" in preferences/ file io help as a workaround?

Otherwise you may consider returning to build 208 of 21 which was the last build before major video engine changes. It's what I and other users who have tested every build of 21 returned to for various reasons. All downloads are available here.

Thank you for all the helpful responses.i will post a file when i return to my studio tomorrow. Mark-y you are correct sir. I was an original beta tester of vegas way back in 1999. I was always a music production person first back then so sonic foundry and my first uses of vegas was primarily for Audio editing. Basically what it boils down to is yes im old and have been observing and learning from the forums for many years. This is actually not my first interaction with this forum its just been a long time and i lost track of my login information fron back in the day.

So those of you who mentioned trying to remux the files thank you for that suggestion, yes that worked. Hopefully a future release of vegas might make it fully compatible with importing mkv files so remuxing won't be necessary in every instance. Thank you to the members who also volunteered to look at the media if i were to upload it. Unfortunately, the files contain private testimony which is confidential due to HIPPA requirements and by court order and are not allowed to be distributed which is often the case with legal video. Anyway, i had a workaround for that had it been necessary I would have simply recreated the problem with non-confidential content. Thanks again to all who chimed in.

You can post the MediaInfo (metadata) for the file without violating any NDA.

But I'm sure you already know that.
