Vegas Pro generating clicks/pops//thumps/splats on soundtrack

A problem that I thought I'd seen the last of with Vegas Pro has returned again recently. Random clicks and pops and thumps and clunks and other digital splat sounds appearing on the soundtrack; they're not in the original video files I'm using, they're being introduced by Vegas itself.

I last had this problem over a year ago, but after replacing my PC in the summer it seemed to go away, and I managed to create a two-hour documentary without Vegas introducing a single unwanted clunk.

Then last month I had to reset all Vegas' settings to default (for some reason I forget) and now I'm getting the odd click and thump and pop and splat on the soundtrack again.

Any ideas? I seem to remember finding a solution to this problem somewhere once before, and it was as simple as turning off a setting somewhere.

What version of VEGAS and build are you using? Haven't seen this in 22.
