As I say, just dreaming out loud. But it'll be a shame to lose Effects (and Image) going forward. I'm assuming that, even if VEGAS fail to figure out a deal to get the current versions of Effects and Image (for those of us who own them) to work with Vegas Pro 22 then they will at least continue to work standalone (and, of course, with 21)

Another possible dream is that Boris FX acquires Hitfilm and Imerge. 😋 Then Vegas and Boris FX continue to cooperate to get the keep-developing Effects and Image.

One of the advantages of this is that Boris FX's support for Vegas has been stable for decades.

The second advantage is that VEGAS Effects is expected to be transformed into OFX plug-in, so that it can be integrated into event FX, track FX and output FX of Vegas. This is a closer integration for Vegas.

No sure how in the world Magix could buy anything after going through the insolvency process we just endured.

@VEGASDerek Does this mean that the reorg/restructure is now complete? Not seen any press about it really since March.

In regards to the reorg, not much more I can say. Most of us at the company have been kept in the dark about the process. It's hard to say what else may happen in the the next several months. That said, VEGAS users should be assured that the team is confident in VEGAS's future.

We have not made any official announcement about VEGAS Post's future. Needless to say, your VEGAS Post 365 subscription will work as expected with all the bundled software for the duration of the subscription period.

MikeS wrote on 7/2/2024, 7:58 AM

Yep, got the same email about 40 mins ago. Very sad. But at least we can continue to use Effects and Image, which is I suppose a good result out of a bad situation.

Guess this means my bug fix request with the team that was overseeing Vegas Image and editing text layers is not going to be addressed then. Unfortunate as getting a fix for that would save me a lot of time with making simple edits to thumbnails that, once created, just need a number increased.

I was just made aware of the email going out. Intra-company communications is particularly poor right now.

IAM4UK wrote on 7/2/2024, 1:16 PM

I was going to post an excerpt from the email, but it's here already. I hope future versions of Vegas Pro will INTEGRATE the kinds of things "Effects" added to the Suite. But since I subscribe to BorisFX Continuum Complete, I suppose I can do without Effects.
Note for Magix: I have avoided subscription, but if Vegas Pro AND Sound Forge PRO were bundled as a subscription, I would probably shift from periodic "perpetual" licenses and try the subscription.

Ardat wrote on 7/2/2024, 3:52 PM

This email is so confusing and discouraging. Am I being granted a perpetual license for Effects and Image? How would a person who subscribes to Post Pro be able to continue to use it otherwise? When does Post Pro actually end? Will I be billed this month my usual amount, which comes due tomorrow? Will I have to buy a perpetual license for Vegas Pro?

I use the stock footage included in the package extensively and this was one of my favorite perks of Pro Post 365. Will that be gone now? Will Vegas Hub continue at all?

fr0sty wrote on 7/2/2024, 4:08 PM

The only things being affected by this would be the programs Magix doesn't outright own. Magix owns VEGAS Pro, VEGAS Hub, VEGAS Content (they license it, but it's still their thing), etc... the only thing being affected by this are the apps that were developed for Magix by FX Home, which was purchased by Artlist, who then made the move to pull the plug on those apps (they've been doing a fantastic job of driving FX Home into the dirt since the purchase). So, VEGAS Effects and VEGAS Image won't be getting future updates, but they should still continue to function just fine. Chances are what we currently know as "VEGAS Post 365" will be rolled into a new bundle package that no longer has those 2 apps bundled in (but they'll likely keep working as long as your subscription is current), and Post 365 users will probably get migrated to that new package. This is not official info by any means, I'm just speculating here as to how they're likely going to handle it... consider it an educated guess.

I know Vegas Effects is discontinued -- have a peer who relied on it for 3d work integration and is now looking to update his project, but the license no longer works.

What options does he have to get Vegas Effects working once again so he can complete his project?

If you have Vegas Effects, it should still work with the older version of VEGAS or as a standalone. It just won't work directly in the current version. So if you're round-tripping to it from VEGAS, use an older version. If you can use the standalone and just render out the results to put into VEGAS, you can still run the standalone and then put the new render in the newest VEGAS.

VEGASDerek wrote on 11/30/2024, 7:49 PM

If that user had a 365 subscription, yes, when the subscription for Post ended, Vegas Effects would be deactivated. If they had a VEGAS Post 21 (or earlier) perpetual license, it should continue to work.

@VEGASDerek and @jetdv

That's what we were worried about. Indeed he had 365 subscription, which he'd happily continue if that was an option (it's not). So what option does he now have to finish his project which he's invested lots of time in with Vegas Effects? (e.g. I believe 3rd parties are still selling Vegas Post 21 perpetual licenses.. is this the only option for him?)

He's not trying to buck the system -- just trying to get work done.

@RedRob-CandlelightProdctns  ... Vegas Effects was a variant of HitFilm Pro which is still available, so your colleague might want to install the free version of HitFilm to see if the Vegas Effects project will open in HitFilm:

The free HitFilm version only permits exports up to HD, but there are the Creator and Pro versions which are better featured - unfortunately, those two versions are by yearly subscription. The following HitFilm page shows pricing and has a comparison table.

Is it still possible to open Hitfilm projects in VEGAS Pro 22? The manual says it is.

If that the case, I wonder why Hitfilm projects can be opened but VEGAS Effects projects can't.

Dexcon wrote on 12/7/2024, 12:39 AM

No. The ability to use the HitFilm connector in Vegas Pro ended with the release of Vegas Pro 19 even though POST was first released with Vegas Pro 17. The connector - HitFilm.fio2007-config - was replaced by VegasEffects.fio2007-config for POST versions. At the time with non-POST Vegas Pro 19+ versions, copy/pasting the HitFilm connector into Vegas Pro's Program Files folder did nothing (from memory); with Vegas Pro 22, placing the HF connector into VP22's Program Files folder crashes VP22 seconds after trying to open it with the HF connector listed as being the fault module causing the crash.

I should add that the HitFilm connector works with Vegas Pro versions prior to VP19 - I've just opened Vegas Pro Edit 18 and can access HitFilm via R clicking the video event and clicking on 'Edit in HitFilm' in the context menu.
