I'm back to editing, and so far, no issues. I am at the moment using a lot of Boris Continuum, and so far, so good.
I still have Build 403 installation to fall back on if things go "south". But at the moment, even using Boris, timeline playback "seems" to be smoother.

I've been looking for the release notes? not sure where to look tho,
I've been playing with Smart mask, there's been no change there,
This advert annoys me a little because I would like this to work, I understand It does say "to a video frame" & there's a BETA symbol at the end but I still think this advert is verging on false advertising,
With a normal event there's no way of adding masks to each frame without manually manipulating the orig mask on each frame (I can't get Animate curve in Bezier mask to work, it just fills the timeline with keyframes as you drag the cursor)
If you split an event into single frames & then add Smart mask to each event the Analyse button only works on the first event,
& if you render as image sequence - import that sequence & add Smart mask to each separate event you can then Analyse & add a mask, but that'd be a pain, I got to 20frames before turning it off.
@Former user I haven't even attempted to use that feature yet since it's beta and I don't want to be disappointed. But you aren't the first to mention this. And also I would like to know how they did it in the advert. It's a tease for sure. Maybe, in VP21 it will be better fleshed out...
But yes, looking at the advert, one would think that it is possible with the version of Vegas they are showing this in. I guess we'll find out in the future. But I don't think it was fair showing it as if it is working in the "here and now", and is a reason to buy Vegas.

@RogerS@Reyfox Thanks, VST 🥱😁, One thing i would like one day is the Search in the Video FX window to find the presets, at the moment I have to scroll down through all fxs to fill some kind of cache, then search finds the presets.
You were writing as i was 👍
Beta should be kept in the beta version for the beta testers until it's ready for release,
Every mask is far from perfect so needs adjusting & the points are all bezier but tiny even when zoomed in so i end up grabbing a bezier handle instead of the central point when wanting to move that point.
Yeah it would be interesting to know how they made the video, perhaps they'd like to share & how long did they spend adjusting the masks on that very short clip?
Update - most VST related bugs are still there, making Vegas impossible to use for audio professionals / enthousiasts.
Got two crashes and one freeze in less than five minutes, only by fiddling around with some very basic VST-2 plug-ins (Melda and Isotope).
GUI is still extreme sluggish when changing parameters and undo's are now also saved even when set to "off" in preferences (but they do save less undo's, yeah party 🥳 😢).
Also when you undo a VST-change, the whole GUI is redrawn every freaking single time you "undo', causing flickering white screens and delays.
And undoing some undo's results in the same crashing Vegas as always - it just freezes and crashes.
Reverting back to 370 which works "good" without all this shit.
Gone finish this project, will take me about three more years, and than I'm gone.
Thanks, but not thanks.

@Petersson Yep I've had crashes when just undoing & I've seen the redraw of the UI, 😒
