Videos are too blurry and sound is very weird

richard-t wrote on 12/31/2016, 12:24 AM

I'm so frustrated right now..... This is the history i've had with this program SO I try to make youtube videos right? First i used this really simple program called Camtasia and everything was perfect. It had it's own recording and editing software and my videos were clear af. Then i decided to buy DxTory (recording software) and sony vegas, well that apparently was a huge mistake because every video i put into sony vegas is just blurry, grainy, pixelated whatever it's called lol. Idk what the problem is but the quality is horrible

So i started using OBS to record my gameplay but i get the same problem.i record at 1600x900 30 fps and use the default internet 1280x720 30fps render settings under sony AVC/MVC. Can someone PLEASE help me fix this,

First video is from the DxTory recording uploaded to youtube (The quality of the video before and after uploading to youtube is pretty much the same)

Second video is recording with OBS and it's just as bad.

Well then put a good video into Vegas. As we used to say in the Eighties, garbage in, garbage out. Vegas is an editor. You can color-correct your footage, you can apply video effects, you can move things around, and much more, but you give it bad footage, what do you expect it’s going to do with it?

What part of this made you think that my video i'm putting into sony vegas is garbage quality? I use the same programs and settings that big youtubers use and my videos look fine before i put them into sony vegas. Thanks for your ignorant pointless answer though .

The words I quoted, which say every video you put into Vegas is blurry, etc.

If you meant to say that every video you get out of Vegas is blurry, etc, well I’m not a mind reader, I only know what you wrote down, not whatever else you may have meant.

Now that you have cleared that up, is your project set to 1280x720 or to 1600x900? If the latter, change it to 1280x720. Also what version of Vegas do you have? Given that you are calling it Sony Vegas, I assume it is an old version, and it is hard to help you without knowing more about your setup.

And with your angry attitude, don’t be surprised if no one is willing to talk to you. I, for one, am done with you. I suspect you have a pirated copy anyway, so why bother with you.

Sorry for being an ass I've been trying to fix this for a while and so many people will just tell me pointless stuff that doesn't help. That was my fault though, i worded my sentences poorly so i understand now why you thought that.

what i meant is that my video looks fine when i open the file and watch it with windows media player and other media players but once i put it in sony vegas the quality seems to change. And it's worse when it's rendered then gets even worse when uploaded to youtube. The preview and render are both set to 1280x720. I'm using sony vegas 14 too btw. And no i don't have a pirated copy, why would you assume that?

Please tell your buildnr. of Vegas Pro 14 you use when you see your problems.
Tell us which hardware you use, PC specs
If you are able to upload a small piece of footage somewhere, we can download it and try it out and inspect the properties of it.

Wait what did you mean? Can you rephrase that please :o

Accusing someone of using a pirated copy with absolutely no evidence is not acceptable. Please follow community rule #1. Respect other members and try to make helpful replies.

richard-t, DXtory is known to cause problems in Vegas. You're better off with OBS Studio if your computer can run it and your gaming at the same time. Make sure you are using OBS Studio 17.0.0 (the latest version). In there, make sure your recording quality is at least "High Quality, Medium File Size". Then work through this post and the posts it links to: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-why-does-my-rendered-video-look-bad-troubleshooting-quality--103361/

Thank you so much Nick and everyone else who responded! i'll give this a try

okay so i did everything that i was able to do from the troubleshooting post you made and here is my video It's just a random recording As you can see it's VERY pixelated. I disabled resample as well btw. It's weird because i did a free trial for adobe premier and the video wasn't as bad.

Here are all of my settings for SonyVegas/Obs and you can see the video properties.

In your Project Properties, change Full Resolution Rendering Quality from Good to Best.

I would not use Constant Bit Rate (CBR) to render.

Is your screen 1600x900 or are you capturing a window that the game plays inside larger pixel dimensions?

richard-t wrote on 1/2/2017, 5:59 PM

that setting didn't save for some reason but it was rendered at best.

What do you recommend ? and my Monitor is 1600x900 but i don't record in full screen. I put the game in windowed mode so the size is a little smaller

john_dennis wrote on 1/2/2017, 8:03 PM

For tutorials, I capture full screen. If I need to exclude anything, I use Pan/Crop in Vegas on the captured file.

richard-t wrote on 1/2/2017, 10:54 PM

Alright well that doesn't help the problem thanks for the replies.

NickHope wrote on 1/3/2017, 12:05 AM

I agree with John's advice.

Generally I would stick with the simple output mode and use recording quality of either "High Quality, Medium File Size" or "Indistinguishable Quality, Large File Size". These use the x264 codec with constant quality. The quality is then mainly controlled by the CRF number. A lower CRF number gives you a higher quality. The "High Quality, Medium File Size" preset gives you CRF 23 which should be OK for most situations but could be a little high if you want to eliminate all visible pixellation. The "Indistinguishable Quality, Large File Size" preset gives you CRF 16, which is very low and will give a large file size. If you're seeing pixellation with that then something's amiss.

If you want something in-between you could experiment with the advanced output mode, choose Rate Control > CRF, then try a number between say 18 to 21.

What resolution is that actual video you are recording? YouTube is delivering maximum 1280x720 resolution. If you're not already doing so, you could try doing the downscale to that resolution yourself (rather than YouTube doing it) either in your project properties or your render settings and see if that helps.

john_dennis wrote on 1/3/2017, 1:35 PM

I thought I would share my OBS capture settings. This unlisted youtube video shows the capture process.

An undulating ocean should be a good test for any capture and editing process.

This video shows how the video was rendered for upload to youtube.

Talk about circular logic...

richard-t wrote on 1/4/2017, 6:56 PM

I just want to thank you for going through the trouble of recording your settings to help me but i don't know a lot of the stuff you did in the sony vegas video. I look up tutorials online and use the settings that match my recording etc. But like i said i record in windowed mode so the resolution isn't exactly 1600x900 do you think that might be the problem? Idk what it is i just want to record good quality videos :'(

richard-t wrote on 1/5/2017, 12:38 PM

Okay so maybe i found something linked to the problem. I've noticed that any video i play in any media player looks blurry and **** quality so maybe it's my system? Maybe i'm missing certain codecs or something idk... But everything i record and render out looks like ****

john_dennis wrote on 1/5/2017, 6:45 PM

Please provide:

1) Brand and model number of your display device.

2) Is you video adapter set to the native resolution of the display device.

Notice in the native resolution link that picture quality can decline for settings that are not at the native resolution of the flat panel or projector. Settings that are "very close" can be worse.
