VP19 Problem Using Intel Iris Xe Graphics

dennismf wrote on 4/30/2022, 6:12 PM

I have found that the latest "Intel Iris Xe Graphics Driver" on my Intel NUC computer (running Windows 11) causes problems when rendering video in VP19.

Below is the text of an issue I have raised with Intel:

I am using an Intel NUC model NUC11PAHi7. It uses Intel Iris Xe Graphics. I was using graphics driver 3.0.101.1660 (the latest). I have been having problems with Vegas Pro 19 video rendering. The render process hangs at unpredictable / random points in the render process. Each time I try it fails at a different point. I tried installing an old version of Vegas Pro 19 from last year when I know that the video rendering was working correctly. The problem still occurred using the old version of Vegas Pro.

Today; in desperation, I downloaded and installed Intel Graphics driver 3.0.101.1069. I used this driver because it was published last year when I know my video renders were working.

This old driver has fixed the problem. Vegas Pro 19 is now rendering the video correctly.

I have also raised this as a support issue with Magix referencing my Intel support ticket.

I am posting this here so that any VP19 users that are having rendering problems with computers fitted with Intel Iris Xe graphics may avoid some of the pain I have experienced.

I just bought a new machine running Windows 11 with an Intel Iris XE Graphics card with driver 30.0.101.1631. VEGAS Pro 19 does see this card and renders with QSV are definitely faster than non-GPU renders. Renders to NVENC are slightly slower than QSV.

@dennismf If you haven't already, suggest you run the Intel Driver & Support Assistant to make sure all your firmware and drivers are latest and greatest. Surprised that the latest video driver isn't the most trouble-free with Iris and wonder if something else might be amiss.

I do use the Intel Driver Assistant. Intel Support have given me access to a beta video driver (30.0.101.1934).

I installed it and used Vegas 19 to render 4 projects that had been problematic with 30.0.101.1660. All projects rendered without any issues.

I will continue to use the beta driver and hope that it proves to be reliable!

@dennismf
Thank you very much👏|
This Beta driver solved my problems on laptop from signature to render simple UDH projects from DJI UHD AVC files to Magix AVC or Magix HEVC UHD files with VPro 19

Fwiw, I just installed and tested the release version 30.0.101.1960 and it's giving me the same performance as the 1934 beta on my 11900k. Also giving good performance on a 9900k and an older laptop.

Unfortunately still get lower performance with hevc source clips on the 11900k compared to a 9900k if I choose legacy hevc decoding which renders to higher quality.
