VP22 vs VP23 rendering speed, VP23 ½ slower than VP22...?

Gid wrote on 9/9/2025, 3:24 PM

I just downloaded the Trial & tested a very recent project created in VP22. (didn't want to hijack someone elses post)

Exactly the same project, a mix of Samsung S23 phone clips & GoPro11 clips, all UHD 29.97fps. MediaInfo says variable for the phone & constant for the GoPro11.

Simple project with 15fr crossfade between each event, 2/3 down the timeline there's a few 9:16 with BCC Reframer (Black bar fill) on them. (marked with red line in pic)

Magix HEVC render template.

VP22 render time 10.07mins.

VP23 render time 15.09mins.

I've had a look in Preferences etc & everything seems the same as VP22 unless there's something new or something I'm missing..

At the risk of hijacking your post... this is from the project I'm working on right now. I'm getting roughly 2x greater Nvidia render speed with hd 24/48 renders with vp23 and 5x for 4k hevc 35/70 on an 11900k. My media is 3 10bit 4k hevc and 1 8bit 4k avc. Project has cgp on tracks and selected adjustment events. MediaInfo says all the hevc is cbr and the avc is vbr.

@Howard-Vigorita Thanks 😒 Did you create that in 22 or 23?

On File - Properties, make sure "Resample" is set to "None" unless you REALLY need the resampling.

Howard-Vigorita wrote on 9/9/2025, 4:41 PM

I started it a year ago in vp21, re-saved and worked on it some more with vp22, then re-saved in vp23 to compare the renders. I'm going to keep the separate audio mixdown project in vp22 and continue the video grading project in vp23.

I edit with project properties set to 8bit-full, good, resampling=none and rendered hd that way above. But changed to 32bit-full, best, Optical Flow for the 4k hevc render.

@jetdv Both are on 'Disable resample'. Am I misunderstanding?

No. I had some extremely slow renderings that changing that setting (mine was on Optical Flow) resulted in a substantial increase in render speed. I do see crossfades to seem to be slower.

Howard-Vigorita wrote on 9/9/2025, 5:08 PM

@Gid I see a potential issue... if that vp23 project properties screen is from vp23, the temp folder is pointing to the one belonging to vp22. If that happened by importing settings into vp23 saved by vp22, any window layouts are probably like that too. You can fix that by editing the settings export with notepad and changing any 22's you see in path statements to 23. If you have vp22 layouts you want to carry into vp23, you can copy and paste them into the vp23 folder.

@Howard-Vigorita Do you mean this one ? I noticed that but as it's a temp folder I didn't think it mattered reg rendering..

In the earlier pics & test I didn't manually import anything from 22 apart from the project... The window layout in 23 was still at it's default & I went through the Preferences options but they were also at the default as are my 22 options, I don't change anything really in VP, I find the defaults work best for me. ,

🤷‍♂️ I wouldn't know where to start with that 🤷‍♂️😂👍

& I only have 4 window layouts that are quite simple to recreate. I'm on the Trial at the moment as I can't afford to upgrade right now but over the next few wks I've videos to make, so hopefully I'll set up 23 how I like it, do some editing & see how it goes.. & hopefully I can render these out using VP22... haven't tested that yet.

Thanks.

I had previously test rendered using Nvenc (VP22) a users uploaded near 12 minute FHD 59.94 file that previously took 5 minutes and 20s to render out.

It takes 3 minutes and 20s. using VP23 b278, happy days, no more stop start.

@Gid That's the one. You can also navigate to the analogous vp23 default with the Browse button next to it. Here's the other one in View/Window Layouts that also has a Browse button...

Btw, I think the idea of recreating window layouts from scratch, or at least re-saving them, is a good one. I suspect there's new data fields in the new files. I was seeing stars (*) next to my layouts immediately after loading the ones I copied from vp22. Re-saving them made the stars go away. I recall that happening in the past from 1 build to the next.

Gid wrote on 9/9/2025, 7:27 PM

@Howard-Vigorita Thanks. I think it was 20 to 21 or 21 to 22 where I imported layouts but they crashed VP, so I recreated them instead, those problems went away.

I wonder if the render issue is because I'm still on Windows 10, my PC says it needs a TPM device fitting to get Windows 11, I've just been looking into it again & it seems possible so we'll see, I'll find the cash to upgrade VP & I'll bring my PC up to date 👍

I wonder what Windows version @edoardo-l is on as he posted a similar render problem.

@Gid

Just looked at your motherboard manual bios, as I have the "baby brother" to yours (MSI TRX40 Pro WiFi w/3960x), and you have a TPM device onboard, like mine. Actually, all my Threadripper boards have had it since the X399 days (still have one running with a 2920x, on windows 11)

In BIOS/UEFI, go to "Advanced\AMD fTPM configuration" an ensure "Firmware TPM" is enabled. Like my MSI board, it was not enabled by default, though my newer Gigabyte TRX50 AERO D board was. After saving the change, and the board re-initializes, and you get back to your logon screen, do that, then re-start your computer again to ensure it has taken. Give this a couple of days for the computer to "phone home to Microsoft", which it should then come back in your "Update Windows" section that you can now "Upgrade" to Windows 11. Hope this helps.

@Chief24

Thanks, I have looked into it, watched a few vids but I don't think it is installed. These pics are from my motherboard site where it states 'Internal I/O Connectors - 1 x SPI TPM header (14-1pin)'. I can see this when I look in the PC, it's tiny but looks like these pics with nothing plugged into the 14-1 pins ..

When I restart the PC I'll have a look in BIOS.... 👍

PS.

Google -

The ASUS Pro WS WRX80E-SAGE SE WIFI motherboard does not have a TPM chip directly on the board, but it supports a TPM module via the TPM header located on the motherboard. This allows you to add a separate TPM module to the board if required for security features like Windows 11. You can check the motherboard manual for the specific TPM header location and type of module supported.
