No. May be in the next release...

"Can Wax 2.0a make bullet-holes, blood sprays, muzzle-flashes, etc? "

Can it do my taxes, dust my furniture and mow the lawn? :)

NOA, you may know this already but the application you are looking for (for bullet-holes and the like) is ALAMDV.

I'm not sure if I read the term "rotoscoping" correctly. I'm looking for a software (currently looking at Commotion from Pinnacle) where I can cut out a moving or still video and place it at another area of the video.
(I.e cut of a couple that is just standing and paste them into another video).

Is that was it rotoscoping? and does this new app do it?

Thanks.

I dragged the 'WaxVegasPlugin.dll' onto Vegas and it prompted me to re-register the DLL. I hit YES and then it gave me the same error. So there is something about this plugin it doesn’t like.

I did notice the following if this helps:

1. I had an instance of Vegas rendering in the background when I installed Wax. (sorry, I forgot it was chugging away back there so this whole thing could be “operator error”) ;-) Could this have caused my problem?

2. I have my OS on C: and my applications on D:

3. Even though I installed Wax on my D: drive, it did make a Debugmode directory on my C: drive with a subdirectory containing a Filters directory. (install bug?)

4. None of the samples load correctly because they have the media drive imbedded in them and can’t find the files on my C: drive and don’t prompt for a new location.

5. The Wax plugin appears to otherwise be working normally.

I have also tried copying the samples directory to my C: drive and that solved the samples not loading. So Wax is working fine with the samples you supplied (very impressive by the way) but Vegas still gives me an error every time it loads. I also tried copying the Filters directory on the C: drive over the D: drive but Vegas still gives this error when loading.

I can do a system restore to last night which will remove whatever happened (because simply uninstalling Wax does not remove the error) or I can continue to debug it with help from you. Perhaps I should do a system restore because I had Vegas running at the time of install just to clean things up? Then try a re-install?

I am concerned about Wax placing files on my C: drive when I installed it on D: drive. Was that intentional or an installation error?

Edit ...added later: It’s probably important to note the problem with Wax not finding its sample media. This will be a problem for people who use external drives (with letters that change from PC to PC) and are use to Vegas prompting for missing media since Wax does not (and, in fact, won’t let you load your entire project unless it finds its media!). You might want to add this to the readme file.

Yes please do a system restore and try again. Since it is Vegas that gives the error i would not be able to find out why it causes this message (esp when the plugin works fine otherwise).

Yes the Filters directory is placed in your default "ProgramFiles" path. For you it is the C drive so thats where the files will be placed. This is because they are common files for many applications and they are intentionally placed there and it is not an installation bug.

About the samples, i'll add the note at the website. Thanks

Just made a short Film using the 3D Title.. Lights.. I tried to use the Shatter but dident work for some reason. Anyway I uploaded to Kellys site (Chienworks) Should be on soon.
satish wrote on 3/26/2004, 9:46 AM
The UserGuide says Shatter should be placed in a track "above" the other elements, not "on" the video element like a normal plugin. Try that... checkout the modelload.veg which has a shatter demo.

Satish,

Great work! I'm playing with it right now as we speak and i gotta say the plug in looks very professional. You are a truly great guy for not only working on this project but for sharing it with all the Vegas users. I can't say enough about this and all your plugins. Sony should be proud of your work as well.
JohnnyRoy wrote on 3/26/2004, 9:55 AM
I did a system restore and re-installed Wax and all is well. The error is gone and Wax still works fine. ;-)

Question: In PluginPac 3D, I would manipulate an event in 3D simply by changing its rotation. In Wax, I have to add a Plane 3D Object which is square and then resize the event to get it back to 4:3. Am I doing this right? Can I just manipulate an event without having to resize it to be full screen again? If not, could you add a 4:3 video plane?

Thanks Satish This Great fun The best Ive had in Ages it feels just like any of the Other Debug plugins when you get Familiar with it ! I was just wondering If you could make me a time Machine so's I can pick a winner in the Grand National. How does any one get to be so clever and Generous :)
satish wrote on 3/26/2004, 10:10 AM
Yes what you do is right. And yes i would be tweaking the 3d rotation/postion stuff for better intuitive usage in the next update.
JohnnyRoy wrote on 3/26/2004, 11:06 AM
Satish, You are better than you think. I just realized that the Quick 3D option under General does exactly what the old PluginPac 3D does. Simple rotation without resizing. (although now that I can wrap video around an object why settle for just rotation. ;-)) Wax 2.0 is amazing!!!

In fact it _is_ the old 3DLE. But remember it is not a 3d plugin so you cannot apply lighting, shadows or mix with other 3d objects.

Satish,

I'm playing around witht he Model Loader (wayyyy cool) but it is not loading some of the .3DS models that have .GIFs. Is that expected?

Thanks for you hard work!!!

I have had no luck getting this to work.

I first uninstalled the Debugmode PluginPac. I know I didn't have to do that, but it looks like this supercedes it.

I then installed Wax 2.0a. I then tried using it inside of Vegas, but after about ten seconds I got a message, inside the Vegas plugin dialog, telling me that one of six things might be stopping Wax from working (including other plugins, RAM preview, etc.). I checked each and every one of them, but they were all set correctly.

I then quit Vegas and tried to run Wax in the standalone mode. I added a DV AVI file and tried to preview it, but got neither audio nor video.

I then went to the Start menu and clicked on the PDF user guide to look for further help. The PDF wasn't there. I did a system wide search for the PDF file, but it couldn't be found. Hmmm. Maybe something in the download is corrupt ...

So, I uninstalled Wax, deleted my download, re-downloaded the file, and then re-installed. Same problems. So, I uninstalled, re-booted, re-installed, and tried again. Same problems.

I have Net Framework 1.1 installed.

I have now uninstalled Wax again, but when I go to the install directory, most of the Wax files remain.

Am I doing something really stupid here? Is there a problem with this installer? I just manually ran the uninstaller from the Wax directory (because it is still there after uninstall). It brings up the uninstall dialog and seems to go through an uninstall, but nothing happens.

Further on this (a few minutes later): If I try to manually delete the debugmode directory, I get an error message about audio dlls still being in use, even though neither Vegas nor Wax are running. I then rebooted and immediately deleted the folder and it deleted just fine. Something is not closing down and release properly.

P.S. I accepted all the default installation paths during each installation.

P.P.S. I have now found the PDF file and it is in the directory where it should be, but it is named "User Guide.pdf", yet the shortcut menu is looking for "UserGuide.pdf" (i.e., with no space). Perhaps there are other naming mistakes that are causing my problem?

Yes, GIF images are not supported by Wax. Try using PNG, JPG or BMP. (for a quick test you can edit the .3ds file in a binary editor and change the extension of the image file, as well as save the image in the other format)
satish wrote on 3/26/2004, 11:46 AM
Which OS version and what Vegas version do you have? Is your Vegas version able to run scripts? Do you have the preview window showing in the screen (this could probably be your issue...)?

Yes the user guide was a stupid typo. Very sorry about that.

" edit .3ds file in a binary editor"

Dude, you kill me. I was hacking that when I read your post. Seriously, you are a Vegas Icon!!!

BTW, if anyone wants to play go over to http://www.3dcafe.com/asp/meshes.asp
and grab some 3D files.

I just keyed a F14 over a shoot of my house (with a little jet audio!).

To much fun :)

Satish,

Many, many thanks for all the hard work you put in developing this. I've been enjoying your earlier plug ins, and this one looks to really ramp things up considerably. I can't wait to play with 3D models on the timeline.

Is there any way we can convey our appreciation other than by saying "Thanks" ?

WinXP Pro (SP1). Vegas 4.0d. I write scripts as well as run them and have Microsoft .Net Framework 1.1 installed.

Do you have the preview window showing in the screen (this could probably be your issue...)?

I didn't see anything about not showing the preview window at the same time as the plugin. I deleted the preview screen, but the problem remains (i.e., I get the message about the six things that could cause the plugin to not receive the video).

I have finally been able to get the standalone version to accept video, but it refuses to ackowledge audio. If I click on Settings (F3) in Wax, the audio section is completely grayed out (when I select "Combined Video and Audio").
