What is the deal with Vegas Pro 18 and the not responding issue?

huskereurocat wrote on 3/4/2021, 1:38 PM

I moved to Vegas Pro from Movie Studio in part because I was told that it was a more stable program. I'm finding out that it stops working and goes to not responding just as often as VMS did. The latest time is when I simply pressed delete to get rid of a clip in my timeline and the program went to not responding. Before all the bugs are worked out, we're asked to buy the next version of the program and the cycle starts all over again.

Please forgive my ranting, but this gets really old and is frustrating!!!!

If you seriously expect help for your problem, you have to be much more concrete.
I can understand your trouble, but whining alone has never helped.

Sorry!! Didn't realize that I was whining. I wasn't so much talking about just this one instance. Just stating a fact that I hoped that the switch to VP would negate some of the "not responding" episodes. Sad to say it is just as bad, if not worse than with VMS. If I were to provide a formal write up every time that the program did this, I would be hard pressed to get anything else done. Normally I just find work-a-rounds to get the job done. This one I just haven't found a solution to and it's frustrating as all get out. I will try to give more information in the future.

VP Version 18.0(Build 434)

Windows 10 Pro ver. 20H2

Ryzen 5 3600x 4.2 Ghz 32GB RAM GPU GTX 1060 6GB

I record my games via GeForce Experience, because I have a video stuttering issue with OBS that I haven't been able to find a solution for. I then edit in VP before rendering.

I use the HEVC format for rendering, but the 'Not Responding' error comes way before that. This time it was simply pressing the delete key to delete a highlighted clip from my timeline. What other info do you need or can you make a suggestion from this?

I also found this

and this

Are those correct according to my project info and render settings?

The properties of media files that cause problems would be important.

OBS works very well with Vegas Pro together, have you tried the recommended settings of OBS?

Will this help? When VP last went to (Not Responding) This file had been broken up into at least 30-40 clips. I was just pressing delete on one of those clips and VP went to (Not Responding).

Yes I have used those settings for OBS, but there really isn't a conflict between VP and OBS. It between my PC and OBS. The stuttering is in the captured video. I would use OBS if it reacted cleanly with my PC. I am forced to use GeForce Experience to record my games, because they record without stuttering. I then import those mp4's into VP for editing.

I wonder if OBS x264 low CPU usage mode can give better experience for you?

Hello guys
I have a problem with the VEGAS 18 program Yesterday I installed soft on a new computer, but this message pops up and the program turns off. I have three more BORIS FX plugins and I have the impression that when enabling them this happens especially with BCC I tried to uninstall BCC but it is the same. Reinstalling VEGAS can help?
Please help me attach a print screen of the error message

@JACEK-ROGALSKI

Please open up your own thread so that we can go straight to your topic - your problem does not fit here at all.

@walter-i. Is this more like what you're looking for?

walter-i. wrote on 3/6/2021, 1:47 PM

This is a variable frame rate, that Vegas cannot handle well in some cases.
If you want a free tool, you can use Handbrake for example, to convert it to a constant frame rate.

Something similar was discussed here too:
https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/vegas-18-detects-wrong-source-video-frame-rate--126382/

What else you could try: (but please, as usual with troubleshooting: Always only change 1 position, carry out tests, and only when you are sure - this or that - change another position - otherwise you never know what ultimately helped).
