Why Vegas Opening Multiple "Microsoft Edge Webview2" Sub Processes?

Carl-G wrote on 2/18/2024, 10:12 PM

I noticed when Vegas Pro (20) is open, I have numerous "Microsoft Edge Webview2" Sub Process showing as part of the Vegas Pro process in Task Manager. I don't even have Microsoft Edge as a default browser (and never use it). So, what Vegas Pro functions are requiring Microsoft Edge Webview2?

It powers the online portions of Hub. I see the same thing here.

Removing Edge from Windows 11 is next to impossible, but that will change in the upcoming weeks if you’re in Europe. So, you can uninstall Edge without jumping through hoops.

This change is possible due to the Digital Markets Act (DMA) in the European Economic Area (EEA). Microsoft will roll out updates by March 6, 2024, for Windows 11 (23H2) and 10 (22H2), conforming to the DMA.

A question for the developers @VEGASDerek will this be an issue for Vegas for European users if they remove edge from their system?

I thought Webview2 installed along with VEGAS itself and isn't dependent on Edge but rather a web engine based on Edge technology. It's also embedded in software like Office.

@RogerS I hope so! Not that I personally going to remove Edge, I use it as my default browser, and it will stay.

Thank you, Roger. That is good to know, because I don't intend to use Edge.

On my win11 laptop I only get those 6 Edge processes going when I have the Vegas Hub window open. When I close it, only 2 Vegas processes continue running... the Vegas 21 exe and the error report client launcher. Btw, I don't keep that window docked. I only open it when I need it using cntrl-alt-8.
