Will Vegas Effects from Post 19 work in Vegas 20?

sonicvision wrote on 6/17/2023, 2:59 AM

Can anyone confirm if Vegas Effects, that came with my Vegas Post 19, would work with Vegas 20?

@sonicvision Hi, yes is the answer, have a look at this post, I got Vegas Post 19 Effects to work in Vegas Edit 20 👍 Can't remember but you'll have to chase some of the links in this post link.

@lan-mLMC& @Former user , well that couldn't be much easier, thanks! I tested with 19 Post into 18 Edit and works. Now to decide if I should pay the $60 for 20 Edit or wait for 21....

@sonicvision I found Vegas Effects 19 a bit problematic with Boris effects, they wouldn't always transfer over, so this yr I only paid for Vegas Edit 20, (I too got it when it was on a discount 😁👍), then i learnt that file pasting in that link 👍

I like 20 compared to 19, I think the zoom window makes a massive difference when working with effects controls that need to go of screen, but if you've managed this long maybe Vegas 21 is waitable (is that a real word?)

@Former user I agree about Boris FX. There was the version locked issue some versions back so I don't usually buy Vegas based on any included 3rd party plugins anymore but Post is different. Then even the full, paid Boris ones had issues when Vegas or Boris updated. Since 20 I notice that Boris FX and NewBlueFX both seem to mention Vegas a bit more prominently, even some YouTube reviewers so hoping Vegas is getting more consideration these days and that this may make things more stable with 3rd party plugins.

As for 'waitable', I edit in spits and spurts (going long periods in between, but happen to be in editing mode atm so have twitchy finger for some of 20s offerings but don't really want to pay twice in same year.

@sonicvision Yeah, to be honest tho I only ever got Post/Effects because I used Hitfilm for my 3D OBJ files & Hitfilm was going subscription so I checked out Effects just to see, there's not much difference apart from the timeline. Effects is 1 single composite shot, Hitfilm is an editor timeline with as many composites as you wish. (I think)

Like I say I don't use Effects, trying it out just now for you the few BCC effects i added seemed fine but every BCC+ crashed Effects. whether that would be true with Vegas Post 20 I dunno.

I haven't done much serious editing in quite a while, even then it's just simple cuts & a 12fr crossfade for my YT vids, they're educational so no fxs on those apart from blurring my van number plate, so I use Magix Movie Studio (MMS) for that editing, it's a lot more basic generally, but the timeline is similar to Vegas & it plays full res UHD crossfades no prob 1st time, none of this loop play a couple of times before it gets up to full fps playback, & export is 1/3 - 1/4 of Vegas, a 25min simple project of 20-30clips will export in 5-8mins,

I got Vegas for the better use of effects, (MMS won't work with 2/3+ of my fxs), mainly Mocha for the masking of number plates etc, but since early last yr I've been using Adobe AE for playing with fxs, the difference with Vegas is sometimes night n day, playback is better with next to 0 crashes & there's fxs that only work properly in AE,

I keep Vegas tho because I do like it & hope it grows better.

@Former user I did buy Hitfilm/Ignite back in 2017 but while I liked aspects, once Magix made the Post package I preferred that, though haven't truly taken advantage of it that often. I tend to reach for BCC or TotalFX and once Hitfilm went subscription that sealed the end of them for me (same applies to Adobe). The Post Effects are the same as Hitfilm effects and composite window.

@sonicvision I doubt I will pay for Adobe for much longer, I don't use it as much as i pay for it, if that makes sense, but for a while I needed to see what the grass was like on the other side. & Hitfilm I stopped when it went sub, I have the last perpetual version. haven't opened it in mths 🤣

I downloaded trial of 20. Finding Boris FX works much better, in the Vegas timeline, in 20 than in 19 but does crash Effects (19). Interesting to see that 'Open in Vegas Image' option appears too. VST use is now useable too. That's a big thing to me.
