You can send DVCPro50 down SDI into the BMD card and capture as Sony YUV, you do need a DVCPro deck with SDI and from memory there's a bit of a glitch. Panasonic don't embed the audio in the SDI stream so you have to handle that in analogue land or else use AES audio or get an external box that'll mux the AES back into the SDI stream. Or maybe there's a Panasonic deck now that does it all via SDI, always hard to know with those guys, there was talk of a deck to do DVCPro25 via 1394 but they killed it off.
Which is kind of where DigiBeta has it all over DVCPro50, one SDI coax handles vision and 8 channels of audio plus one 9 pin cable for deck control and you're done. You can run both of those an awefully long way too.

one thing about Sony/Sonic Foundry (yeah im going back in time) is that developed elements are always in tune and in time with WHAT IS OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCED OR AVAILABLE.

for example, dual layer support in architect.. burnable (keyword) dual layer9 discs and burners were not officially recognised until the DVDForum said so... THAT was when sony supported it and added it to DVDA3.
HDV... until it was officially annouced, vegas had always support HD, but not HDV... as soon as HDV was a green light.. it was there...

It'll happen.. in time..

I hope that Sony will actually create their own suppot for P2 HDPro. The software is great, but not having "in family" support for P2 doesn't reflect the "Pro" aspect of the software. Surely "Pro" software should be able to handle any of the professional formats out in the marketplace? It's not like P2 HDPro has just arrived on the market yesterday.

Panasonic has flatly refused to license the DVCPROHD codec to Sony to incorporate into Vegas. The way around it is Raylight Ultra:
