Windows 10 causing issues with Vegas 13

marc-s wrote on 6/20/2017, 12:00 PM

My Windows 10 just tricked me into updating and now when using Vegas 13 with second monitor set to external preview all the screens flash when I do certain things like clicking in the trimmer (main and second monitor flash to black and back) then click on the timeline (same thing). Makes Vegas almost unusable. Time to head back to Windows 7? Vegas 14 seems too buggy so I'm waiting for next version.

Maybe W10 also updated your graphics driver. (something that didn't happen under W7).  Well worth checking.

I tend to keep note of my graphics driver as it's easier to reset than messing with windows.

Sys 1 Gig Z-890-UD, i9 285K @ 3.7 Ghz 64gb ram, 250gb SSD system, Plus 2x2Tb m2,  GTX 4060 ti, BMIP4k video out. Vegas 19 & V22(250), Edius 8.3WG and DVResolve19 Studio. Win 11 Pro. Latest graphic drivers.

Sys 2 Laptop 'Clevo' i7 6700K @ 3.0ghz, 16gb ram, 250gb SSd + 2Tb hdd,   nvidia 940 M graphics. VP19, Plus Edius 8WG Win 10 Pro (22H2) Resolve18

I checked but it was using an older driver so I just updated to the latest driver but it did not solve the issue. Using a Radeon 480 card with 8gb of memory. Thanks.

I recently built a new system and installed Windows 7 Professional. I don't have the time or inclination to watch what Microsoft updates in the background against my will with Windows 10. I'm not naïve about Windows 10 as I was an early beta tester some years ago and I have installed it on every hardware platform that I own except the newest one. I just didn't keep it on any of them.

Any performance improvement will be canceled out the first time you have to spend time shooting a bug that you didn't cause.

I hear ya... in general I really dislike Windows 10 interface etc. They always seem to feel the need to reinvent the way most things are done even when they work fine. Windows 7 was the best windows IMO and I've been on windows since 3.1.

I liked Windows 10 at first then it started to do things that I did not command it to do so I went back to Windows 7 Pro.

I've been debating the very same thing TBH, but at what point will it become a forced upgrade because of Win7 no longer being supported?

john_dennis wrote on 6/20/2017, 7:19 PM

2020 is when Microsoft is supposed to cease "support" for Windows 7. Hardware driver support from hardware vendors is likely to be sketchy first. I'll be due for a hardware refresh in 2020. I'll worry about it then or if something breaks.

I'm stuck on Windows 10 version 1511, that last one before the Anniversary edition and the last one that Media Manager works with. I was lucky enough to be able to roll back to it within the 1-month limit. To stay on this version, I have to have the Windows Update service switched off, but I'm starting to think I've been done a favour, as the system is remarkably stable and there are no surprise updates to catch me out. I still have MS Defender running and up to date, and every 2nd Wednesday of the month I manually download and run Microsoft's Malicious Software Removal tool. Obviously I'm stuffed when I need to get a new PC.

Anyway @marc-s, take a look at this comment and perhaps that whole thread regarding crashes with the defocus and starburst FX and AMD. I would download driver 16.12.2 and see how that goes, including testing those 2 FX. If still problems then I would roll back drivers one by one until you get stability. It appears from that summary that 16.9.2 could be a pretty good bet. I also suggest using the AMD Clean Uninstall Utility.

Thanks Nick, I'll give it a try.
