Windows 10 seems to have messed with Vegas Pro 12

Hi everyone,

This never happened before upgrading from Windows 7 to 10...

I have an older project that states it can't find a missing file (an MP4)

When I choose to search the drive the file is located on I get "no results"

When I try to import media I get "warning: an error occured...make sure the file exists and that you have access to the file" (the file plays fine in VLC)

Trying to drag the file onto the timeline of course doesn't work either.

I've found several suggestions when googling but none of their errors match mine so I thought I'd ask her before installing any more codec packs, etc.

BTW, I do have the K-Lite codec and QT installed already.

Thanks very much,

Randy

Windows 10 64 bit doesn't like some of the K-lite and other codecs that work fine in Windows 7. Well anyway that's the way it was with me so don't take that to the bank. Windows 10 will "at the drop of the hat" start switching codecs to the Windows Movies application and it is a very quick happening at the lower right of the monitor so if your looking at something else you will miss it. I haven't a clue why Windows 10 does this. Windows 10 probably doesn't either. This happened to me about maybe 10 times with different codecs.

This isn't the first headache Windows 10 has caused me either JJ...I would revert back to Win 7 but the 30 days have passed already.

Surely other people have resolved this issue...anyone else?

Thanks JJ,

Randy

I don't have the issue yet but I am one of those who had time to roll back to Windows 10 Pro version 1511 until 1607 or later is forced on me in a few months.

Take a look at this, which solves what seems to be a related problem: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/an-error-occurred-while-recording--104357/#ca645049

In Windows' File Explorer, right click the folder containing the and the options you need should be in the "Sharing" and/or "Security" tab. I can't give you an exact walkthrough I'm afraid, as there is a myriad of confusing settings in there in Windows 10.

Please let us know if that works.

I'm not sure I am totatlly following you but if I right click on the folder and select "share with" I see "stop sharing" and "specific people".so I assume I'm sharing with "everyone".

That said, I don't think it is a sharing issue as there are several other files in the same folder that all load fine into the project.

Thanks Nick and please let me know if I don't understand what you are saying.

There's not a lot to follow I'm afraid, as my advice was pretty vague, based on what Ritsmer said worked for him in that linked thread. I didn't realise other files from the same folder work OK. Have you tried simply copying the file to other folders/drives and seeing if you can import it from there? Failing that I suggest you submit a support request via http://support.magix.com/vegas , including as much detailed information about the problem as you can.

Yessir, I've put it on other separate drives and even re-rendered in another app in an effort to strip it of any weird data that might be causing the issue.

I don't think they support Windows 10 for VP 12 (at least SCS wasn't a few months ago).

All that said, I would think it has to do something with codec issues as I just found out that my music app (Sonar Platinum) is doing weird things too...ie rendering an identical project set to 24/48 audio file that is shorter in duration (but identically matches in pitch).
