Won't Burn an Audio CD properly

AZEdit wrote on 5/28/2012, 11:13 AM
Is Sony vegas ever going to fix this? I created a sound track and layed out the audio Cd from events. I then created the disc as "Track At Once" and actually did a Test then Burn. It created the disc and displayed a window- No errors, successful burn! When I play the disc...it plays for 3 minutes, the audio quits and then the next 40 minutes is dead air!! I tried "Disc At Once" and my equipment would not even recognize the disc! So much for the software's roots in audio production. When will this be fixed????? This has been going on for some time......as I recall.

I've never had a problem and I have produced many 'soundtrack' CD's from Vegas. But, I NEVER burn at the max burn rate. All I can recommend is that you try a slower burn rate.

AZEdit,

I have created many audio CDs using Vegas since it's early versions. Could you spell out the steps you are using to create your CD. Maybe we might spot an error or a missed step.

I created a 45 minute vide that my client also wants audio CD's. We do this often. The audio track is rendered as a 44.1Hz, uncompressed wav file (stereo) and then I open that track in a new V11 Pro and drop it in the timeline...making sure the audio default matches...44.1 stereo.
I then double click the track to get the in/out and then click "Layout audio CD from events" from the tool menu. Once that is done, I select burn disc as (and I have tried both) Track-At-Once

I make sure that I check "Close disc when done burning" , "Burn selection only" and Buffer underrun protection. I burn the disc at 12.0x. and check eject disc when done.
I get a message that the disc was completed successfully without errors. I test the disc and it plays for 3-5 minutes, goes silent for the remaining 40 minutes!

I burn the disc at 12.0x.Have you tried a slower speed? That can make a big difference.

I'll try at a slower speed. I know it makes a big difference with DVD. I did not think it mattered so much to be less than 12x for CD. I will give it a go! thanks...
AZEdit wrote on 5/28/2012, 5:35 PM
Burning disc at 4x...will let you know when done....
AZEdit wrote on 5/28/2012, 5:53 PM
Same exact result at 4x. plays for about 3 minutes, cuts out to emptiness for the next 40 minutes! No a burn speed issue......

An chance you could post a screengrab of your timeline. You are not creating multiple tracks, but just one long track, correct?

I assume from your post you have done this before successfully, so there must be something odd either in the file or the timeline. Have you listened to your wav file outside of Vegas to make sure it plays to the end? Have you tried re-creating the wav file?

dave,

Yes it is a single track... and the wav file was the first item I checked. Plays back fine from beginning to end, in and out of vegas.

One error on what I said. I have V11 but I have not installed it yet due to issues I see on the forumn. I am doing this in V10 pro... sorry about that!

Which version of VP 10? I vaguely recall having some audio render problem (or maybe it was an audio problem on the timeline?) that was fixed when I updated from 10c to 10e. Sorry, I don't recall the details -- and it wasn't even that long ago!

I had the same problem with one of the V10 versions - V11 has been ok, at least in this respect.
AZEdit wrote on 5/28/2012, 7:32 PM
Okay....it has not worked for a long time. So V11 has fixed that issue. thanks Peter. Appreciate the feedback.

Not just version 10. I use 9 pretty much exclusively and occasionally have this problem too. I've had it happen with 8 as well. It's gotten to the point where i preview every disc i burn 100% before it leaves me, although i usually do a fast scan on the CD player so it only takes a few minutes.

What i have discovered is that if it starts happening more often i power cycle my external burner and then the problem goes away for a few dozen more discs.

I contributed to a similar thread on the Audio forum: http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?MessageID=768069&Replies=19

Same issue, but I'm using Build 683, and this was my first crack at burning an audio CD from the Vegas timeline. Being just a babe in the woods, I was considerably dumbfounded, until I settled upon a solution summarized by me in that thread.

I haven't had a problem since. I concluded that Vegas 11 (Build 683) is just super-twitchy when it comes to settings for burning an audio CD.

Red Prince,

I think I mentioned I use Roxio and it works...but I have issues with Roxio and their lack of customer service when they purchased Sonic Solutions. I will continue to use them as I am forced to...but was really hoping Vegas would be fixed by now since their roots of the software go back to audio production. That seems to have been lost with the 9 or so versions later.....

Thanks for all the input!!!

I still use Vegas for all my Audio CD burning despite the problem. The 100% check makes sure no coasters go out, and even still, i produce fewer coasters with Vegas than i did with other software.

There is one other solution if you just want to throw money at the problem.

Buy CD Architect

In my case, I bought CD Architect back in the last century.
AZEdit wrote on 5/30/2012, 12:01 PM
Thanks John. Never thought of CD Architect!
