A Visual Benchmark for Decoders, Screen Capture Software, & Streaming

This gives you instant visual feedback -- no database is required.

Lightweight 4K 2160 60p -- It will play smoothly as is.

Usage:

  1. As a decoder benchmark. Simply encode it to the format and codec you wish to test, and open in Vegas.
  2. As a screen recorder benchmark (OBS). Record the benchmark playback using various recording settings, and play back in a player, or load it in Vegas and test the preview playback.
  3. As a streaming benchmark. Check with streaming software both directions and online services (social media, Youtube, Discord).

Seems to play better on YouTube:

But the link to the Vegas project isn't working anymore. Would it be possible to re-upload it?

mark-y wrote on 4/17/2024, 12:28 AM

That Youtube processed sample plays at 30fps, not 60.

Howard-Vigorita wrote on 4/17/2024, 12:59 PM

Negative on that.

Original from here. But out of curiosity I uploaded your clip and it also plays better on YouTube... I wonder if that might be due to the superiority of their vp9 conversion. Comparison upload:

You seem to be comparing the original file playback on Google Drive's Player vs. Youtube's processed version on their player. I honestly don't have a good response for that.

That really wasn't the intention of providing a Download Link to the original file; however you are welcome to use it as you wish.

In light of the new Vegas release and latest round of speculation, the download link was posted mainly for those interested in having a quick visual benchmark for comparing Vegas' native decoders, various OBS encoder settings, and bidirectional streaming platforms, on a more-or-less level playing field.

Our new group of Vegas editors seems inclined to favor instant visual impressions over trying to interpret more precise database results.

Still interested in seeing those kinds of reports.

I think we need access to the original project. There was also another thread about this benchmark. It contains a link to the old Voukoder render preset file. But no project or original media.

No longer in existence, as far as I know.

I did it for tests. 3840x2160, 60 fps, ProRes 422, 1.14 Gb, duration 10sec.
Bitrate 975 mb\sec.
If anyone needs it, then you can think about where to put it.

@iEmby It's a simple "visual" playback benchmark.

If the wheel appears "gray", it is playing at nominal 60fps.

If the "colors" appear, it is playing back at less than 60fps, or dropping frames.

That's all it is; I can't tell diddly from your captured and processed 30fps example.

and why this is pausing while rendering at following settings

Because the benchmark is 60fps and you are rendering at 50fps?
