Audio Out of Sync Bug (VEGAS Pro 21.0 - January 2024)

Munkh-ochir-Enkhbayar wrote on 1/25/2024, 7:14 AM

So I've begun to notice recently that my audio starts to go out of sync, replay random parts and not match up to its audio track visualizers at all. I tried restarting VEGAS, restarting my computer and updating my computer but it doesn't solve anything. When I reopen it, it shows where the audio actually is, but then after multiple frames the audio goes out of sync again and randomly cutting to a different part. This is really annoying and I can't use VEGAS pro to edit my videos because of this. I haven't found anyone talking about it anywhere so, whoever is reading this, please help!

What is this video? If it's a screen recording it shouldn't be interlaced. It also says MKV but is in a mp4 container? Is this a rip of some sort?

I'd work on your capture/recording settings to make valid media.

Munkh-ochir-Enkhbayar wrote on 1/29/2024, 11:58 PM

Oh, what does interlaced mean? And the screen recording is MKV but I rendered the final edit of the project in MP4. I'm not sure what is happening here, if you have any clue what may be wrong with this please give me some input. Thank you.

RogerS wrote on 1/30/2024, 12:17 AM

I think your capture settings may be quite messed up.

Consider starting with a guide to whatever software you are using and pay attention to interlaced vs progressive, etc. If it's OBS people here can likely help.

If OBS try MKV or fragmented MP4 and then use its own settings to remux to AVC in a MP4 container.
In the advanced settings set keyframe interval to 1 (not 0) for better performance.

Having it be constant framerate should avoid audio sync issues.
It should most likely be progressive, as interlaced media is archaic at this point.

Munkh-ochir-Enkhbayar wrote on 1/30/2024, 2:11 AM

Alright, I changed my VEGAS pro project settings so that it de-interlaces the footage. I also adjusted my OBS settings and made it so I record in mkv but it gets remuxed to mp4 once its done. Also set keyframe intervals to 2 as guided by a youtube tutorial. I'm not sure if this will fix the audio syncing issue but i hope it does. Thanks for the help and ill update you later!

RogerS wrote on 1/30/2024, 2:32 AM

Thanks for the update. Yes, for existing footage you need to deinterlace. Going forward you really should be able to capture progressive.

Keyframe interval is just the number of seconds between keyframes- fewer is better. 0 (auto) can be ridiculously long. 1 and 2 seconds shouldn't make much difference.

There's also a setting to prefer audio sync for variable framerate media in VEGAS, though that mainly helps with phone footage.

Hello, here's a new update on the situation. I'm sad to say that the error is still happening in every project I work on. I don't know what is wrong with it, this never used to happen before until recently. I don't think I changed any setting prior to this so I think it just started randomly. I just wish I could edit my videos normally again, if push comes to shove I might just switch to a different editor.

RogerS wrote on 2/6/2024, 8:24 AM

Does MediaInfo state your new footage is still constant framerate?

Munkh-ochir-Enkhbayar wrote on 2/14/2024, 7:34 AM

Yes it does, I posted my recording and project properties above.

Hello everyone. I'm having the exact same audio sync problem as the above user. I'm editing with Vegas Pro 21 build 315. I've tried 8 different times to get an edit with the audio in sync, and have failed each time. I've never had this problem with other builds.

RogerS wrote on 7/6/2024, 5:30 PM

You are using the same type of media? Please post MediaInfo.

Enable legacy AVC decoding in preferences file io could be a workaround. Or use build 208.

I'm deeply disappointed to find that after years of faithful dedication to Vegas dating back to the Sony days, I have the same sync problem in VP 22 build 93 as I've disclosed and discussed in the forum involving VP 21 build 15.

I say this with much gratitude for the feedback from this forum when I originally posted about the sync problem a few weeks ago. The last version that did not show the sync problem (in rendered clips) was VP 21 build 208 which is what I have to use now to render a video with proper sync. I've previously posted mediainfo. Sorry for the melancholy post, but I'm really down over this. I love the software and wanted 22 to work properly. I've have 40 years in video production and have never seen this problem.

The joy I've had and expected to continue into VP 22 is gone for now. I used to love to explore the new features and add-ons, but it seems pointless if I cannot complete a project in this version. My work is all long-form videos of theater productions and dance performances. I've even tried rendering an original clip from the camera without any filters or editing at all, and the render is severely out of sync from beginning to end.

All suggestions are most welcome. Please help me find a way to render successfully in VP 22 build 93.

Many thanks in advance from a VP fan and longtime user.

Try the older decoders in preferences file io or wait for a patch to 22. There's nothing wrong with continuing to use 21.208 until 22 is fixed.

I just read "VEGAS Pro 22 Build 122 is finally here" on reddit

Perhaps this will fix the sync problem.

I ended up on this page because I am looking for a solution to my out of sync problem but in my case is seems that if I edit the audio eg drop the sound and then later edit the video before the sound drop the edited sound doesn't move with the video and audio even though they are grouped.

I am also using Vegas 21 Pro edit with 308 build. This is the first version on my new rig that actually stays running with the dreaded "Not responding" I used to get on other versions.

Anyway I hope this update fixes your problem.

Cheers.

Just wanna say, Vegas 22 Build 93. Enabling Legacy AVC decoding so far at least, has fixed the problem for me. Thanks Roger 👍

Those here using AMD GPUs may want to check this thread
They have just released a long time on the works fix for Audio/Video sync issues, which had been present for unspecified longer times.
