BUG? Manually setting Audio-BUS Volume only changes LEFT channel

RedRob-CandlelightProdctns wrote on 7/1/2025, 10:19 PM

OBSERVED BEHAVIORS:

  1. Sliding the Volume fader on an audio bus properly changes both Left and Right channel audio.
  2. Double-clicking the volume # (e.g. 0.0dB) on an audio bus and setting the value ONLY changes the Left channel volume!

EXPECTED BEHAVIOR:

On #2, manually typing the volume on an audio bus should set the volume on both L and R channels

Here's a 2-minute video demonstrating the problem

I believe this is a bug. Could someone here confirm?

Confirmed on VP21.315.

I observed the behavior in Vegas Pro 22-250.

@RedRob-CandlelightProdctns

I tested this in Vegas 23-302 this morning and it is NOT fixed, yet.

That bug was apparently fixed in b356... if that's the base of the coming build it should already be fixed. I've done a number of large projects from start to finish with b356 and the audio mixdowns render and play fine. Never noticed it in b302 because envelope performance was so messed up I had to do all my audio mixing in vp22 and only cut over to b302 for video editing with the exported vp22 mixdown track.

Not fixed, same behavior in VP 22 and 23.

I just checked vp22 b250 and there's no bug there either. But I can guess why you think there is.

It's because the master bus below the tracks has separate sliders for left and right and you're probably only seeing one of them because the bus height is too small. An unhappy ui default but not a bug. The 2 sliders are locked together unless shift is held down. So if you drag only the top visible slider without holding down shift, they both move together without being able to see both. The vertical slider to the right of preview behaves the same way but the default is to show both sliders. If you make the bottom bus height a little larger, both sliders and fields reveal themselves. When I want to change the left and right together with better precision, I hold down Ctrl and use the mouse wheel instead of typing the numbers in twice.

The issue concerns the Sub Master bus(s) when the level factor is entered manually (for instance typing in; -5.0 dB).
Yes the master bus does have two linear faders which operates as they should with the faders or otherwise, the sub-masters have a single (interleaved) volume fader. There is also an volume envelope option on the sub and master buses which seems to work without issue.

All said, I rarely type in sub-master volume factors manually and on many low track count projects do not insert sub masters, so it's a minor issue in my opinion... the bug should be addressed though.

The fix I would suggest to avoid confusion is to not display one split-slider without the other one. I see another VP23 anomaly... if I move the sliders independently on the vertical sliders next to Preview, the sliders below the tracks do not move until focus shifts. Vp22 syncs both all the time.
