Can't Launch By Clicking Veg Files

KarmaMole wrote on 12/15/2016, 10:38 AM

Whenever I try to launch Vegas by clicking on a .veg file, I get an error message saying "Vegas Pro 14.0 (64-bit) must be installed from DVD or the downloaded installer.

When I click that to dismiss it, I get this -

Any idea how to fix this?

I'm using the latest update build 201 and it works fine if I launch it from the Vegas shortcut, but this is a pain in the butt.

Help?

Re-associate the .veg extension to Vegas Pro.

It's already associated. It wouldn't be trying to launch vegas if it weren't.

I also tried associating it to something else, and then back to Vegas to check, just in case, and nothing. No difference.

Looks like you need to reinstall Vegas, but I would open a support ticket with Magix for this.

I would first try removing the comma and apostrophe from the folder called "L'Envol, Etc".

There are some other troublshooting tips in this post: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-vegas-pro-won-t-start-what-can-i-do--104784/

Happens even with veg files that I have on the desktop :( Not a folder issue.

Wierd.  Like  the file association is pointing to a version of Vegas that windows thinks is not installed?  Maybe you can "fix" the file association by changing it to something else, then back again.

Yeah, I did that. Associated it with Vegas 13 and then back to Vegas 14. Same crap.

Okay. I just now tried to re-install Vegas 14. Was told that I have to uninstall it first. So I tried to do that, and got an error 2753. Brilliant :(

Wonder if you have a registry issue?  You're probably going to need help from someone with enough Windows 10 tech support knowledge to edit the Windows registry.  Not necessarily Vegas' fault (happens to all sorts of programs), but I would open a support ticket. Google error 2753 for more info.

Fixed it by:

1) Deactivating Vegas 14.

2) Using Microsoft's Fixit for Program Install / Uninstall to uninstall Vegas 14.

3) Re-Installed Vegas 14.

4) Re-Activated.

Now everything works like it should.

Thanks for the update, especially the Microsoft Fit It tip which I have added to this FAQ post.

Here, this is the download I'm referring to, you might want to add a link to that -
