Canon 80d video won't play in Vegas 18

@JN- at first I thought it was a Nvidia issue, but @RogerS had no problems playing the clips back. I have no idea what the solution is to this. Considering that the 80D is a popular camera, maybe someone from Vegas can answer this question? Or at least test the files and report back on possible solutions.

@David-Jodon “

If I enable legacy AVC is checked my timeline is using compoundplug.dll weather Legacy QT is checked or not.

If I disable legacy AVC decoding my timeline is using SO4compoundplug.dll weather Legacy QT is checked or not.

The SO4compoundplug.dll is in use when I have the problem seeing video on my timeline.”

Yes, agree to all of the above. The issue is not that Legacy Avc isn’t a good band aid, it’s more that other users simply don’t need it.

The problem with the above Reyfox, is that if they were to test, they may well find no issue like you and RogerS.

@JN- you are a respected member of this community with a pretty extensive knowledge of the software. And if you (and others here in this thread) have the problem, there is something wrong and should be at least investigated.

VEGASHeman wrote on 3/31/2021, 5:29 PM

I can verify the problem - it is specific to the use of NVIDIA NVDEC decoder, and ALL-I footage, as researched by @JN-. It will not show up if you are using the Intel QSV decoder, or the AMD UVD decoder, or the MainConcept software decoder (either via so4compoundplug - with hardware decoding set to OFF), or compoundplug (with legacy AVC decoding enabled).

We will work on a solution for this and try to get it into the next update. In the meantime, those of you who do see the problem can set hardware decoder to "Off" with so4compoundplug to work around this till then.

@VEGASHeman Thank you for the feedback.

Thanks, that actually makes sense! I never have the NVDEC decoder enabled- only Intel or software.

While I do not have the problem, this is an awesome response from the Vegas team!

Just had a chance to download the Canon 80d clip and got the exact result @VEGASHeman did when I tried it on my Dell xps-15 laptop running v18.482 with latest Intel & Nvidia studio drivers. No legacy or Quicktime installed. Got no issues if Intel HD630 selected as decoder in i/o. Blank screens scrubbing backwards if Nvidia selected for decoding.
