As a generally pleased Vega Pro user, I remain mystified at the lack of clip audio envelopes. I hope my comment about this oversight could be taken as a plea for adding this small feature.
I always found clip envelopes handy in Cakewalk/Sonar because they moved, copied, and deleted with the event. Closest Vegas comes to that functionality is the option to Lock Events to Envelopes so that track envelope points above events move with them. Auto-Ripple (ctrl-L) also lets you delete a portion of the timeline or close gaps, while moving affected track envelope points together with markers.
If you want to lower the volume of one event, you can do this. If you want to transition (like fade the level up and down) then you have to use the track envelope.
Yes I agree Event level envelopes for volume and animating audio FX would be useful. I had them years ago in a consumer editor that I used and miss them in Vegas.
Using Track envelopes and Lock Envelopes to Events doesn't always work with rippling. I've had keyframes get out of order.
As a workaround I split my audio clip so I can apply adjustment to just a part and if appropriate fade the ends to avoid any sudden change.
Yes, the audio event. Sorry, I guess "clip" is an outdated term.
@NTO2care I've taken the liberty of amending your post title. I agree with you 100%. There are times when one wants to apply volume or FX adjustments to an Event. It is sensible, and more practicable, to apply them to the Event and not the track.
Actually with audio FX it doesn't appear we can animate them at either Event or Track level? At least I haven't found a way in VP21. Maybe another feature request?
There is an option for animation. Add the effect to the track. Then click on the "Configure FX Automation" button
In the window that opens, select the parameters you want to automate.
In this case, there was only one option but other effects will have multiple options. Now you'll have an envelop on the track that you can use to adjust the setting over time.
As @DMT3 eluded to, you can attenuate the 'Gain' of individual audio events by dragging the top of the event downward, but it can not be automated like a track envelope and affects the entire event. A work-around may be splitting the event and using cross-fades to smooth out the volume change transition if necessary.
Thanks to all who responded. Vegas Pro doesn't offer event envelopes for fine tuning audio events. Since this issue has been raised before, it isn't likely to be added. Consider this topic closed.
I would not dismiss this. I do have this on my radar, however it is not one of our higher priority items right now. We are very focused on performance and stability at the moment. We would hope to be able to get to some of these workflow things in the future as our modernization of the video engine and UI becomes more complete.

@jetdv Wow. Thanks, I've learnt something new today.
