Clips lagging in preview window after update

Wovian wrote on 7/30/2017, 4:15 AM

Morning Folks

I have just updated VP14 to build 270 and whilst my HD camcorder clips are still previewing fine those clips made with my camera are badly lagging. Audio is fine. These clips were previewing fine earlier today in the earlier version of Vegas I was using (Think it was build 201).

Is there a setting I can adjust in preferences that will fix this? Why has it just started happening now? I have used clips from this camera in VP14 for a couple of years and haven't had this issue before.

Thanks

Hi Set

Its a Sony Camcorder and I think the format is AVCHD. Just to note though there isn't a problem with this its the files from the canon DSLR which I believe are in the Mov format which is the problem. In build 201 there isn't an issue.

set wrote on 7/31/2017, 10:19 AM

Ah, ok... it's the same format with mine too... I also use Sony Camcorder, and it is similar AVCHD.

Currently can't have specific answer for this, but so far I have no issue working with AVCHD format. You can check my system spec by clicking my username (set). I write my spec system there.

The only settings I can think about is Options>Preferences>Video tab>D-Ram set as 0

Set, the OP is having issues with the MOV files from his Canon DSLR, not with the AVCHD files.

My advice is to transcode the files with the free Catalyst Browse to XAVC-I MXF format.

Thanks Set, I will take a look. I made a system restore point just before I did the upgrade as I nearly always have an issue of some sort with either VP or NBTP when I upgrade. I have learned the hard way having lost lots of time over the years!

Thanks for correcting, Oldsmoke...

I rarely use Canon DSLRs, but so far I know, I also suffered with lagging preview when working with these MOV files.

I have now tried all of Nick Hopes tips regarding video preview to no avail. One thing I have noticed is that if I open up an earlier project with clips from the same camera/sources as the current project then they preview fine - even with build 270 - but with the latest project I can't even get iPhone clips to replay smoothly. I haven't changed any settings - in fact I never go near them! Any ideas?

I think my problem is something to do with quicktime and MOV files from the iphone and a DSLR. Can someone remind me of a version of quicktime that previews OK? I'd like to check this again. I have been using clips from the same iphone and DSLR for a couple of years without any problems so its a bit odd to suddenly hit this problem.

Re-wrap your iPhone MOV files to MP4 using this method: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-to-convert-mov-video-e-g-iphone-to-mp4-for-vegas-pro--106154/

Verify which codec Vegas is using to decode your Canon DSLR files, as described in section 1 of that thread. In my experience they should get decoded by compoundplug.dll, which is generally very fast. If they're getting decoded by qt7plug.dll (Quicktime) then use the same method to rewrap them as you use for the iPhone clips.

The final version of Quicktime, 7.7.9, should be as good as it gets for VP14: https://support.apple.com/kb/DL837?locale=en_US But still better to get it out of the workflow if possible.
